[opensuse] heat and stress GPU

Hi, I change my gpu from an old ATI 9200 to a better supported NV7600 Me being computer sound adverse, both are silent i.e. I am fortunate that I can go by without gpu cooling fan noise. However from what I feel with my fingers and see via different tools (via (k)sensors, hdtemp and the nvdock/nvidia settings) the new card runs slightly "hotter" than the older, usually at 62° celsius, according to nvdock. While this is not a reason for concern in itself, it surely heats up my motherboard more than before. According to ksensors, this runs now about 8° hotter than before, still no concern, but apparently, better GPU perfonrmance comes at a prize. ;-)) Now I would like to really stress the Graphics Card, just to see how this affects my cooling and in order to do some "GPU cooling baselining". While on Windows there are lots of "Demo softwre" and benchmarking tools around, all of which really stress the graphics card, I cannot find anthing for Linux. Extensively googling did not help and the repositories also do not have something for me, as far as I can see. How can I heat up my graphics card? How do you do it. [opensuse] gmplayer hangs

Hello: Recently gmplayer frequently hangs with the following message (especially if playing is started by double clicking): MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: decode_video - MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM. Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/ bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash. - MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen. It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug. Playing the very same files by mplayer has no problem. I have packman packages of mplayer. This symptom shows on 10.2 and 10.3 with the latest few mplayer packages (but not only with the most recent one). Had anyone else similar problem? Thanks, IG Kisorsolunk 10 LAPTOP-ot! [opensuse] Ensoniq 1371 not working after yesterdays update

On my suse 10.2, with KDE, I am using an Ensoniq 1371 sound card. Yesterday I made an normal update with smart. After I had a small electrical blackout I had a reboot. If I start Kmix I get a blank page without any information. With yast for a reinstall of the soundcard I get the information that I should have an CT4751 board and after choosing the fast install I get the information that there is the error description: The kernel module snd-ens 1371 for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. Same if I add the Ensoniq sound card via the "add" button. I end up with CT4751 and no install. Cannot remeber what was in the update but something must have been changed. IO and IRQ can be excluded because before the forced reboot everything worked fine. Reinstalled it, fiddled around some, and what do you know? Suddenly it works like a dream - and damn (pardon my french), this is a good looking desktop! Not entirely stable, I had one case of window decorations suddenly disappearing, but then I just switched to KWin and back again using the Fusion Icon, and window decorations were back. But still - wow! I never thought I would get enthusiastic about visual gimmicks and such... I wish I could make it a learning experience for me and others by finding out what went wrong the last time, but I am not quite sure. Maybe it was what you suggested; the decorator setting. I'm a newbie, and recently newly installed OpenSuSE version 10.3 (KDE) and I have problem to connect internet using my mobile phone Nokia 6230 via USB cable to my computer. After logon with root account and then trying to troubleshoot my problem to connect to ISP. Could you please advise me for the pop-up error message whenever I run KInternet. Thank you. [opensuse] Sound issues

I have a very annoying problem. mobo has MCP55 High Definition Audio using the snd-hda-intel driver. The out put is horrid a constant his and when music or any other thing is playing it sounds full of static and lots of base. Tried using alsa and oss in kde and gnome with no difference. [opensuse] How to install independant RPM packages in SUSE 10.3 GNOME?

Hello everyone! I'm having trouble wit Gtkpod 0.99.10, and I'm trying to install an independent RPM of Gtkpod 0.99.8 (or whatever). I downloaded the file and double clicked on it, but it appeared it wanted me to extract the RPM package. Since I know that's not what it's supposed to do, I right clicked and selected "Open with Install Software". It appeared to start loading all the repos, then closed the window. How can I install these RPMs on SUSE with a GUI? [opensuse] zypper error

After running zypper I get the following error. QSettings: failed to open file '/usr/lib/qt3//etc/settings/qt_plugins_3.3rc' This happens whether something is actually updated or if I manually check for updates.
