[opensuse] Dell D820 + Docking Station = APIPA Address

So, I have a Dell D820 and this is an issue i've been living with actually for a while. When I am docked, and i turn on my machine, I first get an APIPA address (169.254.x.x), I have to then redo reconnect with NetworkManager to get an ip address from my local subnet. Anyone with a D620 / D630 have this issue? [opensuse] iwlwifi driver vs i3945 driver on Thinkpad T61p

Hi everybody. I'd like to be able to try out the new iwlwifi module on my Thinkpad T61p, but when I try removing the i3945 module and configuring the wireless with the new driver in YaST, I find that the newer module isn't listed in the menu of possible drivers - even though the proper iwlifi RPMs are installed. I'm running right now the latest patches as well and I still have this read only problem and its on 3 machines each with a slightly different setup but the same. One of my machines has its swap partition on a raid 5 actually and it also suffers the same problem. Please keep us posted if you find anything out. [opensuse] STRANGE problem - NO root password!

I've never had this one before! 'Just TRIED (twice) on a clean install with 32-bit 10.3......password entered during the install WON'T work for root!! Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks!! [opensuse] create a Samba PDC using Yast?

On the surface, it looks fairly straightforward to configure a samba PDC with OpenLDAP using Yast. Has anyone done this, and do you still need to go in and edit the config files afterwards? I experimented with this yesterday, but was unable to get my PC to join the domain I set up. Then libata got to so good that many (most) of the PATA drivers were re-implemented (by Alan Cox of Redhat) via libata. And then the new implementations got stable enough that the distros decided to move to the libata pata drivers by default. (Fedora was the first to move in the spring.) But, for the foreseeable future you should be able to use the old drivers/ide implementation and get the old functionality (and naming convention). The long term solution is to have libata implement its own full set of infrastructure and no longer fit under the SCSI infrastructure. When that happens the partition limits should be restored to the higher limits. Novell has Tejun Heo supporting libata. He has done 2 major upgrades to it in the last 18 months (new error handling logic for 10.2, PMP support for 10.3, ??? for 11.0). My hope is that his next big project will be the libata infrastructure, but I have not seen anything posted about that yet. [opensuse] 10.3 - online update doesn't work with proxy?

Hello List Today I had some spare time, so I upgraded my work desktop from 10.2 to 10.3 - well actually I did a clean install, telling it not to touch /home or /local. Everything works nicely so far, execpt for one little show stopper: Yast is apparently unable to make use of my proxy settings. This all worked in previous versions of suse - surely I must be missing something obvious. When I try to add an online repo, I get an error message about needing proxy authentication. But I had gone into yast network services and configure the proxy settings, such that the "test proxy settings" button reports that the proxy is working. How then to teach zypper how to use the proxy settings configured in yast? [opensuse] OpenSuse 10.3 Update Manager Issue

Hello, I installed OpenSuse 10.3 yesterday and I noticed something odd today. If I check the "Include optional patches in additional updates" and "Include 3rd party updates in additional updates" boxes in the preferences window of the update manager it shows me 15 additional updates are available. However, if I run the update manager and click details I cannot see any of them. I can however press install and the update manager does it's magic giving me the message that everything is installed, but when the update manager closes and it's re-checks for updates it still gives me the message that 15 additional updates are available and I can redo this process all over again, time after time. I don't know if I want to unckeck these boxes and miss out on any additional updates. Any advice? Secondly, I read in an IRC chat log on the OpenSuse website that BlueFish (the HTML editor) was removed from OpenSuse 10.3.
