[SLE] hotswap sata disks

Of course hot swapping SATA disks is not currently supported in Linux. As such, udevmonitor reports nothing when the disks are inserted or removed on a system that does support this at the hardware level. There is work in libata, but nothing functioning for use in a production system. So, what would be the next best thing? I assume I would need to do a script that handles un-mounting the disks, and then a rescan of the devices. And then a re-mount.. I remember doing this way back with SCSI devices. But perhaps there is a best way to scan for SATA devices? The tricky bit is that I have 4 SATA disks that will sort of work in sets. And the user will probably want to pop in one in the set when looking for something. [SLE] tightvnc and suse

Hi I've been using tightvnc on Mandrake for a long time, its very easy to use on that distro, click on the icon from the apps menus and enter the remote address and display number, then off it goes. [SLE] HDD Upgrade

I have SUSE 10.1 installed on a machine here with a 40G HDD. I have just received a new 80GB drive. I want to replace the 40G that is partition as follows: Dell partition, /boot partition, swap partition and / (root). I have imaged the machine (used systemrescuecd) and copied everything to the new HDD and resizing the / partition using qtparted to include the free space. I disconnected the old HDD and booted with the new drive and the system is up and running. However, when I do a df -h it still shows the / partition at about 36G. Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/hda4 36G 5.2G 31G 15% / udev 506M 184K 506M 1% /dev /dev/hda3 502M 40M 463M 8% /boot I've never done this before, so am I missing a step here? What do I need to do to get the / partition to recognize it is now larger? Is there a Suse upgrade to Thunderbird 1.5 for v.9.3 or are we supposed to grab a tarball? [opensuse] RepoKommander for SUSE Linux

Hi I've made a Kommander script for adding repositories to SL 10.1. Versions are available for both rug/YaST and Smart. Check it out at: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43378 It should work nicely but it needs polish. I decided to release early - time will tell if I'll release often, too ;) This is only sort of a proof of concept. It would be better if a real developer could make something better. But I actually think it's pretty useful. I'm considering adding functionality like installing multimedia-packages and the like. Thanks to Benjamin, aka. benJIman for some pointers. [opensuse] async I/O on SuSE 9.3 (aio)

does anybody have any experience running aio on SuSE? how do I make it happen? this is to connect it to Oracle 10G (10.2). Question, When will XFCE be a part of base install of OpenSUSE? Also, there use to be a pay disc for software that didn't fall under GPL. What is that disc now? [opensuse] WiFi card slow to start

Hello, I'm stuck with a problem. I've got a PCI WiFi card (using the rt61 chip) in a machine runing SuSE 9.3. I've managed to instal the driver and configure the /etc/Wireless/RT61STA/rt61sta.dat file - although I may have made some mistake there, teh docs are not very clear. The point is: interface ra0 is there. However, if I do an iwconfig, I get this: RT61 Wireless ESSID "" (no access point) ... blablabla... So I have no connection. The ssid name is given both in the rt61sta.dat file and in Yast, although YAST insists on configuring wlan0... Basically, getting online is not difficult: "iwconfig ra0 essid any", and everything works. The problem is that this machine is meant to be installed in a place where other people can use it. They will *not* be Linux specialists and I do *not* want to give away the root password, so I have to find a way to run this command (or anything that brings the same result) at boot. I tried a command in boot.local, but it fails because device is "down". I also tried a script in /etc/rc.d/rcS.d but to no avail. Maybe someone who knows better than I do has an idea. Is it possible to give users the right to execulte just one command (iwconfig)?
