In hopes of getting some better Wireless network managment (more on that in another post) I backed up then upgraded my 10.0 laptop to 10.1 this weekend. Most went well and I'm writing this from the laptop. I first went to YaST and updated the libzypp thingy so that the Zen Updater will work. Along the way, I updated about fifty packages while still in YaST. After a reboot (I'm a good Windows user.) I went and noticed ZMD was telling me to update more. I went to update and got a really nasty message, "Novell.Zenworks.Zmd.Public.ZenException: Failed to lookup resolvable..." I googled this and - after finding a bunch of useless information - saw Carl's informative reply to just this question on the list. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2006-May/2397.html I thought that it looked complicated but would give it a try, anyway. (I'm still a newbie, after all.) When I went into YaST software management to remove suseRegister - the first item on the list - I saw two things, that made me think. In addition to suseRegister, I am given "Kick-suseRegister" with the description of "Dummy to remove suseRegister." What should I use? I don't want to make the system FUBAR, so I'm treading carefully. I'm going to backup my home folder again, so will want to work on this shortly after. [opensuse] XGL/Compiz benchmark

Hi, i'm a reviewer from ChileHardware.com we are preparing a VGA round up review for linux, with nvidia and ati vga. *Is there a a way we can benchmark XGL/Compiz* ?? Wish distribution you think is better for this ?? 10.0, 10.1, 10.2 ( alpha ). This benchmark is going to take more than a month, whats versions of XGL/Compiz, do you recommend ?? [SLE] Setting User Quota

How can I assign quota to a user in "GB's" ? When I use "edquota -u username" it opens the user in vi editor and expecting to me to enter blocks, soft-hard-inodes etc. Is there a formula to use ? Thanks for the help. -- Parvinder S Raheja

[SLE] kmenu icons

Hello Is there a setting somewhere where i can shrink the kmenu icons down some, they are way to big stretches the menu way out. I don't remember these icons being so big in other distros. Is this just a SuSe thing ? [SLE] can't connect to the internet

Hi everyone, I'm trying to connect to the internet with suse 9.3, but have not been able to. When starting up it will say that the dhcp daemon wasn't able to establish an ip address, and that is backgrounding. Eventually it will fail. However, when I type ifconfig in the console, it gives me an ip address. Any help is very much appreciated. --Seth

Hi, I encountered some problems loging from a SUSE Linux pc onto a HP-UX server and redirecting the DISPLAY to the Suse pc. Here is what I am doing (suse and hpux stand for the names of the two boxes): [suse]$ xhost + hpux [suse]$ rlogin hpux [hpux]$ export DISPLAY=suse:0.0 [hpux]$ xclock Error: Can't open display: suse:0.0 - Networking works fine, both "ping suse" and "ping hpux" work. - The Xserver listens to tcp port 6000, "ps -edaf | grep xdm" gives root 6123 6113 2 11:41 tty7 00:00:07 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -br :0 vt7 -auth /var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles/A:0-N9wgXF - "netstat -ln" confirms that: tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:6000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 :::6000 :::* LISTEN - "ssh -X" is no alternatice as there is no reliable ssh available for the (very old) HP-UX server. I could not find any other configurations that should hinder the DISPLAY or any advice what else to do. Do you have any ideas what else I could try? Thanks a lot for your help. Right now I am going to use a perl script I wrote which does a: rpm -qa --queryformat '%{NAME} %{VERSION}\n' and then performs a rpm -Uvh on all the rpm's in my mirror which do not match the installed version. Much faster and easier to do than monkey about with zen-updater or yast online_update.
