Part 3: Suse 10.1 doesn't start anymore.: help!

Ditto for /etc/fstab The bigger news is that I *have* booted the rescue system in SUSE 10.1 install CD... and it hangs _just_ like the normal system: screen goes pitch black in 1 second or less, nothing happens anymore until I hit the RESET button... Hw fault (where) or something else? Is there any way to "rescue" or debug the rescue system itself? I am going to search it myself but of course any help is appreciated. Later, Marco

HAL Storage - adding ntfs-3g policy or mount script

Hi, does anyone which files have to be modified in order to change from ntfsmount to ntfs-3g? I have tried changing these files: /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi /usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-storage-mount Changing the mount command and filesystem for ntfs to ntfs-3g, but the storage device (external hdd) stills being mounted as the "old" ntfs driver (the kernel ntfs driver, not the ntfs-3g one). genius graphics tablet (II)

I tried the tables as a wacom graphire 3 under yast and the mouse worked fine out of the box. But i still can't get the pen to work. There seem to be so many required settings t alter. Can the guy who helped last time get back to me. I'd bre really grateful for some more info. cheers, Steve.

Problem with updates after libzypp update

[opensuse] Different resolutions for local LCD and external VGA port

Hi! I have a Dell Latitude 120L, with 14" wide screen LCD, configured for 1280x800x32 on an Intel 915GM (i810 driver). If I connect an external 17" standard LCD to the external VGA port, the monitor says that this mode is not supported. Using SAX, I tried setting up a different resolution (1024x768) for it as it was in multi-monitor mode, but it still doesn't work at all. problems after upgrade of KDE 3.5.4 to 3.5.5 on SuSE 10.1

I updated KDE from 3.5.4 to 3.5.5 on SuSE 10.1 via "Update All" in YaST. Afterwards my settings from /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager are no longer honored by X/kdm add there are a couple of other oddities. I have DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="yes" and DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER="no" as I'm accessing it via a remote client ( LTSP ) and don't use X locally on the machine. After the update when KDM started, it did start a local XServer on vt7 and it showed the generic KDE login screen instead of the blue SuSE/Novell login. It also refused remote connections so I couldn't get a login screen on my client. Also, file /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xaccess was not present. Then I tried to kill off x/kdm by switching to runlevel 2. It didn't die and using the rcscript "rcxdm stop" didn't work either. I had to manually kill kdm_greet, X, and kdm. I changed a setting in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and ran SuSEconfig to verify it was still working. It created a new /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc. I changed the setting back and ran it again and /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc was replaced with a new copy identical to the one I started with. Then I symlinked /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc to the file SuSEconfig had generated /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and tried to fire it up again by going to runlevel 5 and then via the init script. This time neither X nor kdm even started. I moved it back to /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and tried again. This time X and kdm both started. A local KDE login was still brought up but it had the normal blue Novell/SuSE login this time which I believe is configured by /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/backgroundrc. It also did allow XDMCP connections as I was able to connect from my client. I still have a local X server and KDE login running in spite of my settings in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager. The screensaver no longer diplays properly. It fires up but seems just change a few pixels on the screen and then stop. Also, I normally shutdown at the end of the day with something like "shutdown -h 10" issued from the console, then log out and power off various clients. Kwrited would normally throw up a message about the shutdown that was about to happen until I logged out. Now, it throws up the message every 60 seconds and causes a system beep each time even after all the clients are logged out and powered off. Any ideas what's going on? Why the duplicate config files in /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm and /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm? Jason Joines =================================

[opensuse] fixed mount points don't work in 10.1

Hi, I tried to setup fixed mount points for 10.1 the way described in http://en.opensuse.org/SDB%3AMounting_to_Static_Mount_Points (since my cdrom is indeed hdc, I use the XML code 1:1). However, it just has no effect. I did restart hal, but the CDs are still mounted at /media/<LABEL> instead of /media/cdrom Could that be because I automount with ivman, not running KDE/Gnome?
