problem with firefox

Hi, I have a weird problem with firefox. Whenever I click on Mr Fox on my taskbar (KDE 3.4.2, SuSE 10 X86_64) I get a browser up on screen, but 2 firefox boxes (what DO you call the instances that appear in the taskbar??) appearing in the taskbar with the egg-timer rolling over on them. Eventually the 2nd one disappears and I'm good to go. This is with the SuSE compiled version of Firefox (installed via Yast) and I get the same behaviour with both the 32 and 64-bit versions, BUT not if I start firefox from the command line. Then I get 1 browser window, 1 taskbar instance and everything is hunkydory. So what's up with Mr Fox (on the taskbar)? Cheers, Jon. -- Jonathan Brooks (Ph.D.) Research Assistant. multi-processors, threads and top

Please help, We have a machine that has 4 dual-core CPUs. Now we have a Java application that has multi-thread support. The problem is, when I use Top to see what is going on, I usually see a single process on a single CPU using 99%. Rarely do I ever see more than one Java process using CPU even though there are 5 running. So, can Top show a single process on more than one CPU? Is there some other way I can look at this to get a better picture of how many of these CPUs are being used and how much? SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10

Might someone know the specifics of what this really is. The web site is vague. I'm interested in knowing if the kernel used is based on Ingo Molnars -rt patch set and if its glibc has PI enabled mutex support (2.5). Is it anything more than SLES-10 with these 2 things. If the kernel is based on Ingo's -rt patch set will they possibly be including this support in SuSE-10.2 kernel? Can anyone already using Beta 10.2 releases say if their kernel source config options include a "Complete Preemption (Real-Time) (PREEMPT_RT)" in the "Processor and features" section? Thanks Mark

[opensuse] DBUS and my CD Rom

When I start up KDE, I get a message that DBUS isn't starting. My CD ROM is not coming up. VMware question

I am still in the transition from XP to Linux and have some more questions: I have now an image of XP on XP created. I have also created other images from other Linux versions created. Unfortunately the space on my hard disk became to small and I moved the directories of the virtual machines to another drive. The image did not work anymore. I moved it back, it did not work anymore either. I had to re-install the image. Not a big deal for this test, but for the real transition, I would like to move the image over to the next hard disk. How can I do that? (on XP and on Linux and from XP to Linux) bye Ronald Wiplinger

KMail

Hi, all-- SuSE Pro, 9.3. I got KMail to look much like Eudora, which surprised me. I didn't think you could do that. I.e., the list of incoming messages appears on a screen by itself. Then if you _double_ snap on a listed message, it appears full-screen. How come I have to double snap on the message, when everything else in Linux is single? It's a bit confusing. (Eudora requires a double snap, so maybe they copied it?) I am much happier with KMail now, anyway. (Some of you know of my KMail problems in 10.0, so I regressed to 9.3. So far [just a couple of days] so good.) I asked about Thunderbird, and got it installed, but could not get any mail with it. So thanx to those who helped out, but I think I'll stick with KMail, if it continues to work out OK, now that I could fix what I considered a clumsy interface. There will be another post regarding getting the M/S fonts installed in OO. I know that's been hashed out a batch of times, but I don't remember the process. --doug

SPAM: Re: [SLE] not receiving all mail from the list

I seem to be receiving a very small percentage of the list mail, since about Sept. 21, 2006 (I believe the server was shut down for a couple of days.) I started monitoring list mail more closely since Oct. 20th. Mail seemed normal on the 23rd. Dropped off substantially on the 24th. On the 25th October I only received about six mails from the list. There were about 30 concerning Skype, I received one (This is a subject I am interested in). There were about 40 others I did not receive. None of these were tagged as spam. What's wrong with the list (this is also a past subject I received no mail on)? Morning of the 26th about 9 mails came through slowly, still only part of what I saw in the archives. -- ED --

[opensuse] good SATA raid card for suse?
