yast - printer - freeze/stall in suse linux pro 9.1

Hi, I have a major problem with the yast printer configuration. Consistently - each time - Yast stalls trying to load the old printer file[s] configuration which seem to be corrupted. I am forced to `kill' [ctrl-esc] the yast2 threads to get back but cannot rebuild the printer definition. I have reinstalled cups, and the yast-printer [through yast] but to no avail and have changed /etc/cups/ files - nothing doing; it still stalls. How can I clear the current printer definition [files, etc] and have yast start with no printer definition/fresh? MP3 Plugin?

Hi all.. It seems that 9.3 (the CD set) does not have the MP3 plugin so that I can use my sound system. Is this right? If so, where I can I find the plugin? My dual-installs of SuSE have all ended up with the Windows partition mounted somewhere in the linux directory tree. I think /windows/C but I'm not positive. In any case, `mount` should show you if there's an NTFS or FAT partition mounted under /windows when you're booted into SuSE. If not, take a look at fdisk -- `man fdisk` will give you usage info. That'll let you get a listing of the partitions on the drive. Generating an SSL key for rpasswdd

We're trying to use rpasswd/rpasswdd. I'm creating an SSL private key and certificate using the following command: openssl req -new -x509 -nodes -days 730 -out /etc/rpasswdd.pem -keyout /etc/rpasswdd.pem I restart rpasswdd and execute the following command on another system: rpasswd -a -h <SSL host> <username> and the output is: Trying <SSL host IP> port 774... SSL connection using AES256-SHA Server certificate: subject: /C=CA/ST=Ontario/L=Toronto/O=FB Company/OU=Systems/CN=Systems Dept/emailAddress=me(a)dom.com issuer: /C=CA/ST=Ontario/L=Toronto/O=FB Company/OU=Systems/CN=Systems Dept/emailAddress=me(a)dom.com Server certificate is not ok: self signed certificate! How do I resolve this issue and allow me to change passwords using rpasswd? Thanks

Hello SuSE people, I downloaded a form that was created as a pdf. Then converted it to post script. Views fine in ghostview. I want to fill out the form, save it in any kind of format and then print it. Can't seem to figure out how to edit (fill out) the form with ghostscript. Is it just like pdf and am unable to do anything with it? Is it possible? If so, how please? Bob S.

System Bell problem after V9.2 - V9.3 upgrade

I feel pretty stupid posting this but I'm stuck! I did an upgrade from V9.2 to V9.3 and it worked like a dream (to my surprise after some of the horror stories around here!). However, whenever a new mail arrives on KMail the System Bell beeps and I cannot figure out how to stop it. If I enable sound notification I get my chosen sound PLUS the System Bell!! Any ideas. -JohnK.

vsftp: 550 failed to change directory on symlinks

I use anonymous ftp to distribute installation files for a software program. The pub directory tree is set up by software version number, with a "current" folder containing symbolic links to files in other directories named for specific versions. Thus, the contents of "current" contain the most recent files (links) regardless of what version the actual files came from. When I release new files, I just symlink to the updated files. This worked great on my old server using ProFTP. Using vsFTP now, whenever I try to follow a link I get an error: vsftp 550 failed to change directory The links are linked to valid paths. In visual ftp clients, the links appear with folder icons. What's up here? In "Online Update (YOU)", I see OpenOffice_org1 (1.1.3) but it's greyed out. Only OOo2beta appears under "Install&Remove software". How can I downgrade from OOo 2 beta to 1.1.x?

Weird font being used in certain apps

In certain place like: 1) tabs in xchat 2) room member list in xchat 3) gaim buddy list etc.. a very odd font is being used. I cant figure out where this setting is at. I have tried playing around with fonts in Control Center, but cant figure out what font I need to chage? Maybe I set a theme somewhere that is overriding my font selection? Any ideas? Thanks, Ryan
