Hi! I tried to install kdebinding3-java 3.4.0-6 and there are conflict: kdebindings3-java requires jre1.2.x I have Sun Java 1.5 installed. Which files i need and where to find them, please? Mitja

Starting Gnome - SuSe 9.3

First, let me say I have tried searching the archives and I have tried several suggestions found there to no avail. these do not work: startx GNOME startx gnome startxgnome changed vitual terminals too - no joy. This works though: startxfce4 - for XFCE4 of course Originally, kdm was my desktop default manager; however, I changed that to gdm, but cannot perceive any difference in functioning. Reclaiming Windows partition for SUSE

I've got a laptop with a 60GB drive divided 50/50 between SUSE 9.3 and WinXP. I'd like to reclaim the the 30GB WinXP partition and use the 60GB drive exclusively for SUSE (making a 30GB /data partition). What would be the easiest way to do this? I've got Partiion Magic 7 with which I thought I might nuke the WinXP partition. Or is doing this in Linux better. The current SUSE partitions are ReiserFS so I thought I'd do the same with this new partition. I have a ton of data on the SUSE side and I could backup and do a complete reinstall, but this would be a last resort. Hi, when I do APT upgrade, can I find somewhere updated packages in rpm format? Where APT keeps downloaded packages? Are they discarded after successful upgrade? Thank you for answers. Audrius

imap or squirrel?

Sorry to disturb :-(. I have a problem and don't find the solution in archives. I've seen a lot of squirrel posts, but none seems to do with my problem. I'm setting a proxy/sevreur with a suse 9.0. postfix is going well, mail goes and come from serveur and from clients (I receive them at jdd(a)dodin.org) I try to setup squirrel mail to reach my mail from anywhere. all my mail install is from yast/suse (ftp). so I installed imap and squirrel, run squirrel config, no problem. allow imap in xinetd (imapd) - imaps also. I connect to squirrel by http and get the login screen. I log as jdd, and have this Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to localhost:143 in /srv/www/htdocs/squirrelmail/functions/imap_general.php on line 446 and Erreur lors de la connexion au serveur IMAP localhost. 110 : Connexion terminée par expiration du délai d'attente (that is delay expired from port 110) so I mean this is an imap problem. but there is very few imap doc here. imap is open (and port 110 again) in SuSEFirewall2, I don't see any config file (no im* in /etc) any clue thanks jdd -- pour m'écrire, aller sur: http://www.dodin.net http://valerie.dodin.net http://arvamip.free.fr

I can't rescue a non-booting suse 9.0

Hi, My system isn't booting and is giving the message below (shortened). I know i have to rescue it by booting from the cd. ... The root file system is currently mounted read-only. To remount it read-write do.. bash# mount -n -o remount,rw / Attention: Only Control-D will reboot the system in maintenance mode. Shutdown or reboot will not work. ... However, my 19" lcd monitor goes out of range when I select the rescue from the CD. So I go back and boot from HDD again and start sax2. I switched resolution to 800x600, 1024x768 and 1 or 2 others and each time I rebooted from the CD, the monitor is out of range. I was hoping to find out the resolution parameters to set so I can see what I am doing in a system rescue. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated, Thanks, Sean.

Mouse dead -- Second try

Yesterday I sent the message below to the list, but it has not appeared here in the list's distributions; I would like to try again. There was also a long interval during which (uncharacteristically) there were no messages from the list at all. Apparently the list was down in every sense of the word. **********Repeat message begins*********** I've installed v9.3 -- I repartitioned the disk and installed from scratch, rather than on top of the v9.1 that was there before. The Good News is that v9.3 is much snappier than v9.1; one can live with it. I still intend to replace the 350MHz CPU with 800MHz, because some apps I want to install need a bit more speed, but I think I will be happy without crossing the 1GHz barrier, or getting more modern HD. I have gone on line with it, using Firefox, and am pleased. The only changes I made were in some Firefox preferences, and changing the mouse to the left-handed persuasion and a different cursor.. Whatever I did or didn't do, the system is now inoperable. When it boots, the mouse is not frozen in the center of the screen. Its buttons also do nothing. The only way I could shut the system down (twice) was with the Reset button. Perhaps there was a way with the keyboard, but I don't know it. I was able to bring up a Process List (but I'm not sure how I did that; repeatedly pressing the Tab key moved the focus from field to field, so apparently the keyboard was operational. How do I get out of this fix? The last time it booted, I watched the detailed progress on the screen. I saw nothing tht looked suspicious, except one Warning at the time when the network was being set up. I couldn't read it, and of course I can't look at the boot log. I assume that I need to boot to the Fail Safe option, which I understand to be a command-line mode. I am very new at this OS, and would much appreciate some pointers about how to go about diagnosing what is hanging the mouse and how to repair it. ****************ends*************** -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel

Problem with Ant/Antelope in JEdit

I am attempting to install the Antelope plugin in JEdit. Actually the installation of the plugin isn't the problem. Rather configuring the plugin after installation is the problem. The configuration procedure for the Antelope plugin requires the location of Ant. Ant is installed on my 9.3 partition in /usr/bin. Because the permissions on /usr/bin are root/root the configuration process doesn't see the executables. How do I solve this problem? Thanks in advance. -- Stephen P.
