I have fully quoted your off-list reply. a. remove device b. as root, rchotplug restart c. replace device d. as root, rchotplug restart normally, just an rchotplug-restart is sufficient but I have had to go as above on occasion. I've come around to thinking that maybe Gimp is bigger than I need. A simple program with fewer options might be just the ticket. SteveC

closing a window running a bash script

How do I close the window on a bash script I wrote. I wrote a simple script to mount an encrypted partition in case I didn't enter the password when I logged on. I put exit at the end, no close. USB drives being detected

Hey Group; I have a USB drive plugged into a a USB2 jack. lsusb sees it every time I boot. To get it to mount I (most of the time) need to start and then reboot 3 times before it will be detected. Finally, it is seen. Both fsck.reiserfs and mount report that it is not a block device when it fails. lsusb does show that it is connected. My thinking is that usb_storage is causing the problem. This last time I booted three times and it finally allowed fsck.reiserfs and mount. df now shows 1 /media/usbdrive In all cases the drive is powered up and connected. Anyone else noting this kind of problem? Suse 9.3 & VNC Server

I have been unable to get VNC server to operate on a server. I followed the instructions on the Suse admin help guide which are about as clear as mud, so I am not sure I done it correctly. I added vnc=1 vncpassword=abc1234 to the kernel boot configuration with YAST. (I installed VNC during the installation of Suse 9.3) Using krdc or command line, I still get no connection. Looking at the messages file on the server, I get Jul 24 09:20:45 linux xinetd[6547]: removing vnc2 Jul 24 09:20:45 linux xinetd[6547]: removing vnc3 Jul 24 09:20:45 linux xinetd[6547]: removing vnchttpd2 Jul 24 09:20:45 linux xinetd[6547]: removing vnchttpd3 so I guess vnc is not starting. Anyone have an idea on how to get vnc to work on the server or a howto on doing this. Art
