Switching between two sound cards

Hi everyone, I've got a question I've been struggling with for a while. I've got an onboard soundcard in my PC and it's working nicely with Suse 9.3. However, sometimes I like to use a USB headset to do recordings etc and that actually comes up as a separate sound device using the snd-usb-audio module. When I plug the sound card in, KMix comes up showing two mixers (which is great) but unfortunately I've been unable to work out how to get the arts daemon to switch to using one or the other. I saw some override settings in Control Center but even when I specified hardware device "/dev/dsp1" rather than "dsp0" I still couldn't get sound out of the second sound card. It strikes me that since KDE is using a sound daemon it aught to be possible to switch between sound cards on the fly (even as music is playing). Does anyone know if this is possible? Compact Flash Boot Partition...

Greetings, I have a SCSI drive with a non-bootable SCSI card that I would like to use in a system. I was thinking of using a Compact Flash-to-IDE adapter and a 64MB Compact Flash card to use as the boot partition. The SCSI card is a supported module. Are there any technical issues as why this wouldn't work? Thanks, Christopher Reimer

After checking the DVD there doesn't appear to be much else on offer but I think InkScape, although a vector based program, will cater for these basic needs a little better. SteveC

Handycam DCR-HC21

How do I find /dev/usb/file for USB device

I have a cyberpower cp1200avr connected via usb to a computer. When I look at hardware info in YAST, I can see the device as sysfs_bus_id: 1-2:1.0 If I look in the /var/log/messages file, I see it as hiddev96: USB HID v1.10 Device [Cyber Power System CPS RS232 USB BRIDGE for UPS] on usb-0000:00:1.0-2 I check /dev/usb/hiddev and I only have 0 thru 15. I need to add the dev path to a configuration file and I have not been able to determine it. Can anyone tell me how I can find the real /dev/usb/devicefile for this or what it would be from the above information? Art

Crash on when logging off

Since installing KDE 3.4.1-a on SuSE 9.1 pro two days ago, when ever I log off I get a Signal 11 crash. "The application (Kicker) crashed and caused the signal 11" How do i determine which application caused this/ Cannot find anything in log and only applications running at the time are on the task bar or system bar. Nothing except Kontact is minunized. tried search on SuSE knowledge base and KDE Bugs. I found nothing but I may have used the wrong words to search on. Also since installing 3.4.1 I no longer have sound on start of KDE . I set everything as per the knowledge base article for 9.1 Sound does work on some games and other programs. In KDE Control Panel, the sound test works fine. Any help wil be appreciated. Thanks -- Russ

As i believe a rpm would put all the files in their proper place but a tar.gz would run from the location it is compiled . Any suggestions where to unpack it to? Could i use a redhat rpm? if so which release? Thanks Peter

Media Center Software w/ H.264 support?

Can anyone recommend a good media center package with H.264 support that works well with SuSE? I don't care much about PVR functionality, I mostly want to be able to play back H.264 encoded movies on my TV. Thanks, Scott
