Firewall Monitoring

Hi gang, one other question for today - I tend to run the Firestarter firewall on my Linux distro's as it gives me a GUI that I can monitor for intrusion attempts (incidentally, I get about 60 per hour, most port 445 microsoft-ds attacks). I like the ability to watch it live. Question: I am letting my Suse 9.2 Pro firewall run on its own, but I can't see what it is doing. Is there a GUI available for it or some way that I can monitor it? I can't seem to find anything about this anywhere. TIA, Paul

Hi All I'm running a java based content filter on a Suse 9.1 Server. The content filter uses ClamAV and sometimes the clamav and the java process uses 99.9% of the CPU. The same Content filtering application running on Fedora Core Servers doesn't show this kind of behaviour. Has anybody seen this type of thing with Clam or Java before? Any ideas on how to solve this? Andre

mondo mindi question

Hello SuSE gurus, Since my last episode with Kdar, I have decided to try Mondo -Mindi again. Tried to download them with apt-get. Mindi installed without a problem. Mondo came up with a bunch of dependencies which it said were not installable, like afio, etc. ???? Hmmmm....Why ???? I assume both packages must be installed to be of any use. Are you there Mike ??? Problem with Dialup

Hello everyone, I have a problem here that the help files and archives have not been able to solve for me, or at least I don't understand the explaination of this. What it is exactly is that I just set up Suse 9.2 Professional on my laptop dual boot with XP. XP works fine as does Suse seem to except that when I open KPPP to connect to the internet with my PCMCIA card modem, I get a warning window that says that I do not have sufficient permission to do that, and to make sure that ppp is owned by root and that the SUID bit is set. What the heck does that mean? I am new to Linux and have tried to solve this by reading help on my own, but I honestly can't get it resolved. My user name belongs to "dialout" so why the problem? As reference, my PCMCIA modem (which is NOT a windmodem and has all controller stuff onboard) has worked with all other distro's including Mandriva 2005 which has been used most with it. I have the entire package installed with my 9.2 including all server stuff as I wanted to learn more about it. This is a magazine bundled Dual Layer DVD that I used - and just about everything under the sun is packaged with it. I really want to get this resolved as I want to buy 9.3 Pro but want to make sure this works ok first - and of course it is killing me to have to fire up XP to write this message, sure would love to have my Linux back! hungarian o" and u" characters in openoffice/msoffice

Dear list members: I have created a slide presentation with Openoffice.org Impress. (Suse Linux 9.2, Openoffice 1.1.3) Since the language of the presentation is hungarian I used special hungarian characters, like ő (o") and ű (u"). I have to show the slides somewhere where only windows and MS Power Point is available. Therefore I have saved my presentation from openoffice as power point (.ppt) file. When I checked the presentation on a windows machine opening it by MS Power Point I realized that the above characters were replaced by o and u. I tried several font types (arial, times new roman etc) but the result was the same. For checking the origin of incompability, I created a slide with MS PP in windows containing the above characters. Opening the file with the WINDOWS VERSION openoffice, the characters looked as expected (normal). Then I saved this slide from openoffice as openoffice file (.sxi) Reopening the file the characters looked normal. Then I saved from openoffice this slide as .ppt. Opening this ppt with MS powerpoint, the o" and u'' characters changed again to o and u. Please if you know what can cause this problem and how to correct it, or know a place where I can get more info write. (Since this is urgent, I had no time for googling and check openoffice. org site yet) TIA, IG

If there is a dusty stool sitting in front of it, it's a Linux server If there is a comfortable chair and several coffee cup stains in front of it, it's an NT server. If no one can remember where the server is, it's a Novell server.
