I'm ready to take the plunge into double monitor-land. Intuition tells me that all I need to do is hang another video card into the chassis, hook up another monitor, fire it up, and configure it with sax2. Is it that easy? -- It's just a jump to the left And then a step to the right. Put your hands on your hips And pull your knees in tight. It's the pelvic thrust That really gets you insa-a-a-a-ane -- You need no longer worry about the future. This time tomorrow you'll be dead.

dual header

My computer has Intel 82855 "family" dual header video hardware (Toshiba A35 Satellite). When I tell Sax2 to set up dual monitors it complains that the 855 is not a dual header. How do I convince it otherwise? Meanwhile Intel says the Linux drivers are all unified in an "i810" driver. Sax2 has no such driver available. Meanwhile2 the external monitor output shows exactly what the laptop screen shows but with a serious "shimmering liquid" moiree flicker SuSE 9.2 -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

SUSE-Linux-9.3-mini-installation.iso on in-house network server ?

We copied the SuSE 9.3 double layer DVD iso to a 12Gb hard drive hdb on a 400mHz SuSE 9.3box. We mounted the iso image loopback, and exported an NFS directory named /93iso with a fixed address. We can read the contents of the iso from other boxes on the network. We want to connect recycled 600mHz boxes to the network and install 9.3 from the NFS server. SUSE-Linux-9.3-mini-installation.iso seems to be hard to find. We killed the server firewall and played with slpd. We can see whatever combinations of address+directory we put up for the server's slpd broadcast, but can't be sure we are putting up the correct information. We burned a 9.3-x86-64-Network-Installation.iso CD, but it doesn't want to use the 9.3 iso image on the server. Neither does a 9.2-mini-install CD. Google, the SuSE web page, and slpd documentation haven't gotten us success yet. Suggestions?

Suplementary KNode has been broken for several weeks

I believe there has been a fix to this in the SVN repository. There's a very annoying bug in KNode that causes the insert cursor to jump to the end of the subject input field if any non-alphanum characters are used. Since I'm usually posting about code, I often want to enter some bit of code in the subject. Since the cursor jumps to the end of the field after every keystroke, editing the subject is next to impossible. Has anybody else noticed this problem? Is there a fix on the way? -- Regards, Steven

CDROM - can't play audio or data disks

I am running SuSE 9.3 professional on a Dell Inspiron 9300. The machine is a dual boot with Windows XP. Everything works great, except, I am unable to mount or play audio or data cd's/DVD's. What Works: I can install from the SUSE DVD via YAST. Once the SuSE DVD is mounted by Yast I can access it. I can also burn CD's What Doesn't work I can't mount a cd and none of the audio apps will play an audio CD. I get a variety of errors including "Drive Error" and "No Media" (or something like that. I've tried all of the CD's and DVD's in Windows XP on this same machine, same drive and all work. I've Tried mounting /dev/cdrom as root. It seems to work but when opening the device I get the no media message (Not true, there is good media in the drive). Since I know the CD's, DVD's and drive are all ok, it must be a configuration problem, but I can't grok it (forgive the antiquated expression, I'm old). And before anyone asks, yes, I have tried changing permissions. Thoughts, wild A**ed ideas, help of any kind. --ron -- Ron Hauptfleisch <hops(a)foobox.net>

SuSE 9.3 works with chrony!

CD/DVD Label Program

Hi! I have some memorex cd/dvd labels (they to on the actual disc, not the jewel case cover), and I was wondering if there is a program to print on them, like Nero on windows (it's been >2 years since I last used it) knows where the round sticker is to print on. I saw kover, but I didn't see how to print on things for the actual disc, just the case. Can it do more? Or do I have to find another program? Thanks! -Steven

Apache and php4-gd no images

I have implemented a web app that use php and gd. I first tested it on my laptop (SuSE 9.3 Pro) and it works fine. All graphs are generated and displayed. Then I copied it over to a server, (SuSE 9.3 pro) but on the server none of the graphs are displayed. I compared the php.ini files on the two systems and they are the same. Could this be due to some Apache config or missing library? Any ideas?
