Randall, After reviewing past and current posts to this list, a significant portion are about general Linux questions. Should we turn these posters away? I think we shouldn't, but you, possibly, hold a different opinion. The original post was about "ls". That was it. With all the general Linux non-Suse specific questions that are posted here, I thought he deserved a useable answer. Hopefully, he got it. Hopefully, again, he may go out and buy a Suse box set because he had such great experience on this list. Who knows. >May I ask why your mailer doesn't preserve thread links? Yes, you may ask. Sendmail Relaying

If I set the access database to allow relaying from a domain, say bodyman.com , that I own, and control DNS, can someone spoof the headers of spam and gain the ability to relay from outside the network? Is it better to make the allowence in relay-domains? I definitely get spam with spoofed from lines with my domain and the opposite, complaints from clueless others that my domain is spoofed as the domain from which spam came from, despite the fact that the ip address is not from a network I control. Strange troube rebooting on 9.2

Part A: On my main gateway and mail server I had this strange problem rebooting the box. It hung after power management and portmaps. I couldn't debug it, and didn't see anything that was hanging it up. I was forced to reinstall the system, which really sucks, and after reinstalling, it did the same thing. It just refused to reboot past the same point. Part B: I needed to reboot the box in the first place because the networking went nuts. Does anyone know why ping would return illegal device access, or illegal instruction something like that? Part C: The box runs named with my own config files. But when I try to start it up from /etc/rc.d/ it fails and complains that it is missing the directory /etc/name.d or some such, which ISN'T in my named.conf file. How can I fix the /etc/rc.d/named script to stop this and behave right? Evidently there is a sysconfig variable involved. I eyeballed it, but I think I need to ask someone more familiar with how it is written

If you want to force your dpi setting, open /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc. If the poster didn't mention that he was using Cygwin on windows, no one would have known otherwise. His post would have been just a question about "ls" output and all would be happy. The question was not about a how to stuff a goose or what the ambient temperature on Titan is. I guess the "ls" command behaves differently on a Suse system than on others. ~James

GPRS in SuSE 9.3

Hi, I would like to try Sony/Ericsson GC85 EDGE/GPRS PC Card and GPRS in linux. Any advice how to start is welcome... I launched yast but network card and modem sections in yast do not find anything... In google I find older card works in debian and redhat. So I hope that it is possible in SuSE... Thank you for any help. I am novice in linux... My system is IBM ThinkPad X30 + SuSE 9.3 Pro. Audrius

CDMA cards and Routing in SUSE 9.3

Hey I successfully installed a PCMCIA CDMA/UMTS (3G) wireless Internet connection card on my SUSE 9.3 laptop, although I still cannot transmit data correctly (see below). I can "talk" to the card as a serial device and transmit AT modem commands to it, so I managed to transmit the PIN code to it and unlock it and then initiate a connection. I followed the steps outlined at http://portal.wikinerds.org/howto-3g-pcmcia-gnu-linux But although the card is correctly installed and a connection can be initiated, it seems I cannot transmit data. Although the article mentions a similar problem with some kernels, I suspect my problem may have to do with routing. I am not sure how to make my SUSE correctly route Internet data through the PCMCIA card (ttyUSB0). My laptop is connected through Ethernet to my ADSL router, therefore the default gateway in Yast->Routing is my adsl box. What should I do in order to make my SUSE route Internet traffic via the PCMCIA (ttyUSB0) card when it is connected, and via Ethernet when it is removed, and always route internal network traffic via the Ethernet? -- NSK http://portal.wikinerds.org
