problem with keyboard

hi i boot my computer, i see the suse login screen (kdm i think, not sure...) why i can't go in console mode when the suse login screen are there? i need to login, after kde start... and after when i do: ctrl-alt f1, f2.... i'm able to go in console mode... on the kdm login screen, i'm suppose to be able to do ctrl-alt f1... see a console... how to correct that ? i use suse 9.2 thanks

Where did rpm -b (build from spec) go?

Hi all, maybe I'v missed something, but at least in SuSE 9.1 the -b option was still available for RPM. Now it isn't anymore, at least not in rpm 4.1.1 with SuSE 9.2. There's nothing in the changelog for RPM btw. Why, and when has this option gone? How am I suppost to rebuild a .src.rpm file? Sjeez. I'm pissed off now. Theo -- Theo v. SuSE update: RPM has invalid signature (?)

Dear All, Have just installed SuSE 9.2 with a network install (ftp.mirrorservice.org) and want to apply patches. Each time I run YOU it starts to download each patch and then fails. Under the details I see that the "RPM has invalid signature". How can I fix this? It's driving me absolutely nuts! TV card (Conexant CX2388x chipset) and sound in SUSE 9.2

I have the Leadtek DV2000 TV card with the above chipset. I finally got it to work under v9.2 (Hurrah!), using TV TIME, and get a good picture -- but I have no sound :-(. I've played around with the sound settings in the sound mixers for Alsa sound and Kmix without success. I get perfect sound when I play a music CD (but yet to try a DVD because of the stoooopid way SUSE ships with the broken XINE and the other video player). Can anyone please suggest a solution as to why I cannot get sound with the TV card? Cheers. -- "The absence of alternatives clears the mind marvellously."

FIREWALL HELP!

Hi people, I still having problems with the firewall cuz in my dns is set the external ip and the clients of my subnet have no direct access to this external ip like pop3, smtp the machines are already configured by address to connect their accounts and nowadays we need to put 192.168.0.1 in all machines. its a hard work ..how can i do open accoess from the subnet to external ip of my susefirewall? thanks a lot Joni Hoppen

I have two ".pdf" files, say f1.pdf and f2.pdf I'd like to merge them in one ".pdf" file only by appending the second file to the first one. I tried the command: # cat f1.pdf f2.pdf > Bigf.pdf but the resulting file is a mess that not even Acroread can open. Any help/suggestion is greatly welcome. Thank you in advance. MEM

SuSE 9.2 Can't wake up from blanked-out screen with Xmms

Running 9.2 for about a week everything is working well so far except one oddity: When running Xmms, if the screensaver is allowed to come on and it remains idle long enough for the screen to blank out, tapping a key or moving the mouse will not wake it up. Xmms continues to play, but I cannot get back to my desktop. I just have a dark screen. What I have done so far is either ctrl-alt-backspace to restart X or ctrl-alt-F1 and reboot from command line. So far I have only seen it happen while xmms is playing. In other words, any other time the screen blanks out, it wakes up fine with a key tap or mouse wiggle. Has anyone else seen such a behavior and does anyone have an idea for solving the problem? Also, what happened when the screen is dark? Did X crash or something? Is it the power saving? Thank you. I am trying to follow the directions to do this at: http://www.ka9q.net/5220.html I am running Suse Pro 9.2 on my Toshiba laptop. It runs Suse very well, but I am having some difficulties. (I tried to contact the author, to no avail as of yet). Firefox Crashes on EBay

I'm running FireFox 1.0 on an AMD64 machine running with SuSE Linux 9.2 and KDE. Whenever I click a link to Ebay or key in the address in the address bar, Firefox just goes away - no errors or KDE crash handler window. I can do the same thing on the same machine under WinXP and Firefox and it works fine. I can do the same thing on my other machine running SuSE 9.0 (2.4 kernel) with Firefox 1.0 and it also works fine. Any idea of what the problem might be?
