Hi, I am trying to download SuSE's version of OpeOffice 2.0 from the dollowing site: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/OpenOffice.org/9.3-i386/2.0.0-0.2/OpenOffic… I've been trying for several days now but never got past about 25% before getting disconnected. What I do get comes very slowly, often just stopping for a few minutes. Is there another place to get this? I looked at several mirrors but none have this directory. I do have the official version from Open Office to install but I was hoping to get SUSE's version. Bob

(OT) 64-bit linux

Hello everyone: I'm currently working on a presentation and need your help. Is there anyone running a Linux distribution in 64-bit mode on an AMD 64 machine. Now, I already know about SuSE - what I'm looking for is other, non-SuSE Linux distributions. So, if you're actually running such a system, could you please tell me: 1) which distribution (name and version number e.g.: SuSE v10.0 / 64-bit), and 2) if purchased, what's in the package (e.g.: SuSE 5 CDs, 1 dual-layer DVD [32 & 64 bit] plus a paper manual), and 3) how long you've been running a 64-bit system. You may reply directly to me but, please don't guess. If you've 'only heard' that such a distribution is 64-bit, don't reply. If you're running such a system (other than SuSE), then I'd like to hear from you. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Mike

Setting up a local apt repository

I'd like to set up a local apt repository to allow other machines to upgrade internally on my network. Is this possible? Also the machine I would use as the apt server would be a windows XP box - is this possible? Phil

Script doing tons of scp jobs.

Hi, I have a working, but extremely user-annoying bash-script, consis- ting of 20-25 scp lines combined with few "ssh hostname 'command'" -type commands. Is there please an easier way to achieve the above scp/ssh jobs without to be asked for the password several (=many) times? I wouldn't like to change ssh's default behaviour for asking pass- word(s), even for root; but started to be very annoyed by my own idea to make such a script to "accelerate" my todos. SUSE 10, IOMEGA REV and hotplug permissions

I have a 35 GB IOMEGA REV (SCSI) removable disk in a SUSE 10 box. The system finds the device, makes a nice "/media/REV 35" access point, and lets me see the files. However, it insists on mounting the device read-only. Seems that it thinks the device is a CD-ROM. In fact. "/media/REV 35" is a link to /media/cdrecorder. How can I make it get mounted RW when it is hotplugged? I can mount it by hand with RW. But hotplug always makes it RO. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems AB

Reboot breaks things

Hi! My SUSE 10.0 won't work properly when I do a reboot. USB keyboard and mouse won't work, My PCMCIA network adapter lights up but won't do much else... When I reboot from WinXP to SUSE or WinXP, everything works. Rebooting from SUSE to XP or SUSE doesn't work. SUSE -> SUSE = failure SUSE -> XP = failure XP -> SUSE = success XP -> XP = success I have tried both with Grub and lilo, with the same results. I have attached "boot.msg" from a "good" and a "bad" boot. Any help would be greatly appreciated! lost root password with lvm root fs

Hy people, I have a server with sles8 i dont have any user or root password, i need to reset the root password, i use the usual method of inserting the boot cd and choosing rescue system but once i am in a shell as root i cant mount the lvm root partition, any idea how do u do this?? Thnx
