I have a problem seeing certain IP's in my own subnet assigned by the ISP, looking for help on how I can get it to work. I have my SuSE Linux workstation with 192.168.1.25 behind a NAT router which is the default gateway for the workstation at 192.168.1.1. Now, I have a second IP in my wks within the subnet assigned by the ISP let's say 1.2.3.43/29, this is to allow hosting of some services, no firewall in place, yet. I have another Linux server at 1.2.3.44/29. I cannot see the other Linux server from my workstation. Perhaps routing can accomplish this for me, but I'm totally stupid on how to set that up, can someone suggest? -- Robert

Samsung SCX4x16 driver causes kernel errors in Suse 9.2

Firefox and pop up adverts

Is anybody using the latest version of Firefox getting a sudden flurry of pop up ad's? I haven't switched my Linux box on to try from there but I am getting htis behaviour from the Windows box. I'm not the only one either. Could it be a bug only in the Windows version? Getting DHCP to update DNS

Greetings, My DNS doesn't get updated immediatly when DHCP assigns an IP to a sysem, Is this possible or is it a manual process? What I would favour is that the dhcp assigns an IP to a system, and then updates dns with a system name linked to the IP. When the system is diconnected the lease is freed and the dns entry removed. I have tried the two options in the dhcpd.conf file that I know of but niether is working... they are ddns-update-style interim ddns-update-style ad-hoc Thanks

KDE releases on SLICK

Hello Team As a KDE enthusiast I am confident that KDE will stay around for a long time and stay dominant on the home user front. I do not really have any official capacity here, but I still feel quite part of this amazing journey called openSUSE. I hope I can say these words and won't get into too much trouble .... the focus on Gnome is needed to be able to grow our business user base and focus our internal development effort to what is achievable. I find this all very logical and commendable. I want to personally give the certainty to our majority of kde users, that KDE will still be maintained via openSUSE.org and my own effort, if this is required. I am sure that we will not lack kde packagers in the future. I am sure I speak on behalf of many at Novell/SUSE that see change a must to be able to tackle the market leader in the coming years. I am in no doubt that concentrating the development effort is a goal we will achieve internally as we are preparing ourselves to exchange million dollar punches on the market place. We are de facto a lean, mean fighting machine to grow Linux to the next level. Concentrating development effort is in this scenario inevitable. I do hope that the confusion around the false rumors on KDE's and openSUSE,can be seen as being/getting ready for 2006, the year in which Linux has the break through. Without focus only luck determines outcome. Searching the mailinglist(s)

What is the best way to search these mailinglists? I tried google, but something like http://www.google.com/search?hs=p1l&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozi… or http://tinyurl.com/beqpz for short does not show anything. With the amount of mails, it would be nice to have an effective searchengine. Laptop / wireless card problem with HD detection

It seems that the installation CD for 10.0 doesn't work on my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 1000) if the wireless card is inserted into the slot; the hard drive can't be detected. Even the rescue system has the problem; "fdisk /hda" says that the disk is unreadable. (Windows has no similar problem.) What's more, with the system installed, shutdown, or even switching users in KDE, hangs up if the wireless card is inserted. Somehow the presence of that card seems to confuse Linux (the kernel, probably) very badly. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I can get around the problem by withdrawing the card, but that shouldn't be necessary. Paul

SATA not working with 9.3, but works with 9.1

Hi,To replace a dying SATA hard-disk I bought another one, but the boot process hanged with the "Searching for info file" message. Using Alt-F4 the last message was about ata2: ... After trying to boot in rescue mode with that disk alone and on both SATA ports I assumed the hard-disk was bad. Different SATA disk (Western Digital 120 GB, 8 MB cache) and still the same problem. This time I tried using my old SuSE 9.1 DVD and it sees the new disk and formatted it with ReiserFS without problem.But SuSE 9.3 still shows the same problem. I will try to type of the screen the messages from Alt-F4:[...] scsi0 : sata_sil irq 11: nobody cared!
