Hi >From a fresh installation of 9.1 what is the quickest way to get the Kaffeine plugin to play quicktime videos and Kaffeine to play region encoded DVDs? Since Kaffeine is based on Xine, I guess it's just a matter of enabling Xine to play both Quicktime and region encoded DVDs. Is there an equivalent to PLF for Mandrake in the SuSE world? Thanks. --

Firewire status in 9.1? Multi-LUNs?

Hi I've been evaluating SuSE 9.1 by running the Live CD. I've been quite impressed by what I saw. I've got a firewire enclosure with 2 HDs in it: * 120Gb (master) 2 ext3 partitions * 20Gb (slave) 1 ext3 partition Under Mandrake 9.2 (kernel 2.4.x) and 10.0 (kernel 2.6.x) they're usually referenced as: /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb2 /dev/sdc1 and I can access all partitions on both drives without pbm. When running the 9.1 Live CD I could access only the second HD (the slave one), the master is completely invisible. # cat /proc/scsi/scsi shows only the 2nd HD I believe it's a pbm related to multi-LUNs and that if I were to disconnect the 2nd HD and keep only the master one the 9.1 Live CD would see the master HD. Could someone let me know about the status of firewire in the current 9.1 kernel? Any plan to release a new kernel with improved firewire? I can do with only 1 HD in this enclosure but I'd be glad to know this pbm is being worked on. I'm thinking of switching from Mandrake to SuSE. What version of SuSE are you running ??? Did you try to install the security updates as root. A little more information would help. In my case I had similar problem (IIRC) with upgrade to 8.1 The solution was to "upgrade" my pgp security keys. from the 8.0 version to 8.1 (the new keys were on CD). YOU (YaST2 Online Update) rightfully so, wouldn't let me install anything until I installed the new keys. USB 1.1 and 2.0 incompatibility?

Hi all, I'm having trouble with a brand new 128mb USB 2.0 flash drive I bought. It's a cheap-o Super Talent Flash (www.supertalentflash.com) model STF_O_USB2.0. The drive keeps getting corrupted. It starts with normal filesystem corruption, usually on larger files, say 1.5mb and larger, but if I give it some more time and usage, eventually its partition table goes haywire too. Then I have to run fdisk, wipe all the partitions on it, create a new partition and format it. I'm unfortunately forced to use FAT or FAT32 on it, since it's for work where I have to work with Windows. I tried both filesystems and it didn't make much of a difference. Most of the machines I use have USB 1.1 controllers. Is there an issue using USB 2.0 devices on a USB 1.1 controller? Or is this particular flash drive just a dud? Proper netmask configuration?

I don't believe my network is configured properly, but I've tried everything I can think of to fix it. "ifconfig" says the following about eth0: inet addr:192.168.1.5 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.255 The netmask should be 255.255.255.0. Under YaST2, eth0 is shown to have static address setup with an address of 192.168.1.5 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Under "routing", I can only specify the gateway address (which is correctly specified), but I cannot specify a correct subnet mask. As of now, weird things are happening on my system. For example, I'm unable to get cups to work. Other little weird network things don't work. For example, to get samba to work, I had to override the system network settings in the configuration file to specify the correct subnet mask. I've tried manually overriding with ifconfig and other CLI tools. However, my Internet access (and all network access) stops when I do that. It's only when I go back to YaST2 that I regain that access, but then ifconfig reports the incorrect netmask as described above. How do I resolve the apparent disagreement as to my subnet mask? Antivir update on dialup connect?

I thought for sure I'd asked a similar question on this mailing list regarding xntp, but I can't find it searching the list, so I'll ask again, this time about antivir. Not wanting to be the one idiot who managed to get a Linux box infected with a virus, I thought I'd install antivir while I was doing stuff like testing my firewall and popup protection. Well, I've done so, but I'm not sure it's working. 'ps ax | grep antivir' doesn't show it at work. Do I need to add it to a cron job or something, or does SuSE's install take care of that? And if I need to do it myself, how do I do it? Speaking of cron jobs (and of the subject of this mail), I want antivir to run an update whenever I connect my dialup. I seem to recall it's a very simple thing to do to have it run (like fetchmail and xntp) whenever my dialup connects, but I don't remember how to actually do it. What's the simplest way to handle this? I'm running SuSE 9.0, just in case it's important.
