Glitch in starting spamd

Folks, When linux is booting up, I get the following message regarding spamd: Starting spamd...too late for "-T" option at usr/sbin/spamd line 1...failed So what do I lose by removing the -T from the script? Or is there a more elegant way to solve this problem? For the record (and not surprisingly) I get the same error message when I try to start spamd through Yast2... Still can't get X font server problem resolved.

I am still unable to resolve the problems with getting X to run on my newly installed SuSE 9.0 system. The system is an AMD700MHz on an Asus board with an Nvidia Geoforce 440 MX with 64 MB of video memory. I just noticed that the XFree86.log file shows this: (--) PCI:*(0:12:0) nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] rev 162, Mem @ 0xd9000000/24, 0xdc000000/26, BIOS @ 0x000c0000/17 which seems to indicate an AGP card when actually it is a PCI card. The problem that I am seeing is that when I try to start X, I get the following: Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/kwintv, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID, removing from list! So, I googled and found that this is related to the xfs server not being able to start. Keep an installation tree updated

Hi, I have an internal mirror which I use to install several machines,what I want to do is keep this tree updated with suse's updates,so when a fresh installation is done there is no needs to run yast2 to update packages.Is it possible ? have I to use "create_package_descr" ? if so have I to remove old packages which will be replaced with updates from the tree ,or can yast chose the newer between the two ? Have someone even tried ? Thank's in advance.

cyclom-Y pci and suse9

hi, i'm running into a problem with an older 8-port cyclades cyclom-y (8Yo) card under suse 9 and was wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar. i've been using this card as a serial console head for linux and sun servers on redhat 7.1 for 3+ years without any problem. i was going to upgrade the box to an 800MHz amd and suse 9. the kernel sees the card and loads the driver fine and i can connect to a port, via kermit once. when i go to disconnect it fails to close the port and locks up the kermit session, i have to SIGKILL kermit. after this connections to any of the ports fail and i'm forced to reboot before i can communicate with the cyclom. i've tried this card in 3 different machines (AMD and P4) and i get the same results with suse 9. any thoughts on this? -- Darin Perusich Unix Systems Administrator Cognigen Corp. darinper(a)cognigencorp.com

Cups admin login problem

I can't log in to cups to do any admin tasks. My cups conf. file says: # You definitely will want to limit access to the administration functions. # The default configuration requires a local connection from a user who # is a member of the system group to do any admin tasks. You can change # the group name using the SystemGroup directive. # AuthType BasicDigest AuthClass Group AuthGroupName sys ## Restrict access to local domain Order Deny,Allow Deny From All Allow From 127.0.0.1 so I added myself to the sys group and I still cannot login. I can't login as root either. So the AuthGroupName is sys, I'm a member and I still can't login. Anyone understand what is going on here? Thanks, Jerome

chmod/chown question

Dear all, I have a FAT32 partition on my disk, namely /dev/hda6, that has been mounted in defaults mode on the directory /windows/File_Sharing. The owner is root and group is root too. Well, I would like to be able to save my WinXP/Linux documents that have to be shared between the OS without being root: I know the usage of command chmod/chown, but every time I try to use this command as root on File_Sharing subdrectories, chmod -R <username>.users <dirname> or (the user belong both to users and root groups) chmod -R <username>.root <dirname> I experienxce troubles and errors like this one: OPERATION NOT PERMITTED do you have any suggestion about solving this "simple" problem?? keyboard settings and runlevels

Hi, after booting my SUSE 9 Pro system into runlevel 3, I have worked on SAX2 as root, configured my monitor properly and come back to runlevel 5 (all as root, of course). But when I have started my KDE, trying o write something in a shell, I have discovered that mapping of the keyboard was not correct(I don't mean the letters, but symbols, commas, ec ...). But the set up came back to the correct settings after I have entered as root and beated init 5 But this solution was temporary: after rebooting the system, the situation was the same, with wrong keyboar mapping. The boot log file says that I am really entering the system with init 5 mode. So, what could be the problem? YAST tells me I am using the right (italian keyboard), and when I test it I find the right characters .... Thanks a lot LM

Dear all, according to what has been suggested by Carl Hartung and Patrick Shanahan, I tried to wake up my XWindow and I had success to do it booting as init 3, starting sax2 (with -l flag), configuring my monitor correctly (this was the lost information!) and finally restarting the system with init 5. Summarizing, I think that the problem has been caused effectively by the usage of Nvidia 3D-supporting "official" drivers usage with my video card FX 5600 Go: now 3D functions are not provided.

Courier-IMAP vs Cyrus-IMAP

OS: SuSE 9.0 Environment: SMall ISP hosting virtual domains/users. (Currently several hundred users, nostly commercial) MTA: Postfix 2.0 Which one would best handle mail for virtual users without requiring Linux login accounts or aliases to the same? A cursory overview on my part and I like the looks of Courier-IMAP but nothing is cast i stone yet. This system will also be using anti-spam (probably spamassassin) and antivirus software for the same users. Ease of admininstration, security and performance are all important.
