suse don't show dvd writer

I'm using a Suse Linux Standard Server 8, when I connect a usb cable of my DVD Writer (TEAC), Suse see correctly the device, and via K3B I can write cd, but not write DVD. Infact when I try to create a DVD DATA, in the K3B I see as the media selected is a CD and not a DVD. Do you suggest any tip about this? -- Calogero Bonasia

ImageMagick is a collection of tools. You don't just start it, it's not a gui type program. For your purposes you would use the convert tool. As I already mentioned, type "man convert" to get more info on how to use it. To see all the tools, scroll to the end of its man page or type "man ImageMagick". Hope this helps, Alex. Smartsieve question....

I'm trying to get logged into smartsieve so that I can setup an outgoing email message. The problem is that when I enter my username and password, I get an error on the login screen saying: "Error: failed to authenticate. please check your Smartsieve cookie settings." What the heck does that mean? Last time I used this was about 6 months ago, and I'm don't remember having this problem. Any thoughts? eth0 not starting

When my SUSE 9 box boots up it doesnt automatically start eth0. The only way I can get this runing it to use YAST to initialize it, then when I type ifconfig, its there. However, upon reboot, its no longer there. Likely you should not run qtparted on a mounted system. Knoppix lets you mount without needing a second drive, also its debian based which I think is the case with qtparted. That way your not risking your system on beta. SuSE 9.0 and Nvidia

I have installed nvidia's drivers for my gforce card, its up and running using SAX2 however sax2 will not allow me to turn on the graphics acceleration how do i fix this please? Thanks much Dave

cdrecord stopped working

Hi all, Suddenly, out of the blue, my stock standard cdrecord on SUSE 9.0 Pro stopped working. Yes, I have changed some things since the last time I used it - compiled and installed KDE 3.2 - I don't see that that should interfere. Either ways, I'm getting this error:cdrecord: Permission denied. Cannot open '/dev/pg1'. Cannot open SCSIdriver. Why cdrecord would like to use /dev/pg1 I don't know - as I understand pg1 is a parallel port device of sorts. I have searched the archives and found references to the problem, but no solution or at least an rough idea of *why* cdrecord would suddenly want to access /dev/pg1 instead of sr1/sg1 - same for google. Things I've tried: -reinstalled cdrecord from the SUSE DVD -messed around with the permissions of /dev/pg1 -messed aronnd with the permissions of the cdrecord binary -tried k3bwsetup2 (both stock and 0.11.5 I d/l and compiled yesterday) on the permissions- tried compiling vanilla cdrecord - couln't get it to compile, couln't get smake to compile to use that either. -reboot (shock horror :-) cdrecord does work as root though, but even setuid root on cdrecord doesn't helpcdrdao has no problem workin either as user or root. Enterprise LIcense

Hello, I have looked at the pricing for SuSE Enterprise 8 and it looks like the majority of the cost is for the maintenance and support. Is it legal to obtain one copy of the software and install it on multiple servers. Thanks for the feedback. Robert
