Kernel Panic VFS Unable to mount root fs on 03:43

I moved a SuSE 9 Pro formatted and loaded HDD to a newly assembled PC. ASUS A7V8X-X Rev 1.xx w/256m RAM, etc. No matter how I try to get at it, Default, Failsafe, and all the other Linux boot menu options under SuSE I get this error: "Kernel Panic VFS Unable to mount root fs on 03:43" I can live without the old contents of the HDD if it is necessary. to format the thing. What's the concensus, please? dmc

Hi, I just added an Adaptec 29160 and a used Benchmark VS80/DLT1 (aka Quantum VS80 & Dell PowerVault 110T) to my SuSE SLES8 machine. On boot I get the message at the bottom (as well as other messages - don't want to clutter this list). Any comments, advice, etc. appreciated. Thanks for the info. I'll check that out, although I am running sendmail on these servers as they are 8.x boxes. I did discover that I've been testing with kmail, and it will not recognize that the server supports any auth unless the auth mechs are in upper case. Yet the /etc/sysconfig/sendmail file lists them in lower case. What do you have in your /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd file and your /usr/lib/sasl2/Sendmail file? Cannot Mount CDROM or CD Recorder

I have Linux 9.0 installed. I cannot access my CDROM drive or the CD Recorder. When I attempt to access either one, i get a message that says "I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified". I have searched the support database and can find nothing applicab;e to version 9.0. SuSE support tried to help but gave up and suggested that I subscribe to this mailing list. Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to switch from Windows to Linux and this is my last outstanding problem.

Howto setup PCI wireless Aironet 350 using Yast

Hi I am trying to setup my Cisco Aironet wireless card, which is a PCI one by using Yast (SuSE 9.0). I have an ethernet card which is running just fine as eth0 but adding and configuring the Aironet Wireless does not work. I am using airo.o module that comes with kernel. Yast SAYS that it was configured but checking the boot messages reveals that it failed to start up the wlan0. Has anyone successfully done this ? Where is vmlinuz.config in 9.0??

It goes on to say that this file can be copied to the Linux source directory for a starting point. The problem is that this file doesn't exist. I've searched the archives back through November for the word config, but I don't see a reference to it. I can use cloneconfig, but there is no guarantee that I'm going to get the config in the kernel; cloneconfig asks questions about the configuration. Unless I know the answers used for the release kernel, there are going to be differences. I'd guess that taking the defaults on all questions *MIGHT* be OK, but I don't know. Tripwire Policy File

The tripwire RPM which I downloaded from the SuSE update ftp site seems not to contain much at all. There is no policy file, no cfg file --nothing. Rip audio from divx/xvid/mpg files?

Hey, Can anyone suggest a program that will rip the audio from a video (divx/xvid/mpg) file? Wanting to get some sound clips off of a video but can't figure out how to get just the audio. Or if mencoder is able to do this, could someone show an example command line for it? I've got it installed, but the documentation/info is incredibly heavy on technical details but severely lacking on practical examples. Thanks, Joe
