cannot load shared library

hi everyone, I'm having a problem with a shared library and I do not where to start from. Basically got this 'in-house' soft for which the source code is lost, and that has always been running on Red Hat (not an option anymore, we've all moved to Suse here). Compiling Perl Modules (Frequencies.pm) and IVTV

I tried posting this on the SUSE 64 list, but no one could help me, so I thought I'd try here. I have a WinTV PVR 250 that I am trying to get working on an x86_64 system running 9.1 Pro. After several false starts I was able to compile IVTV. I then tried to run the included utility to set the channel (ptune.pl) and came up with a message that I was missing the Frequencies.pm module, so I located the file it was included in - Video-Capture-V4l-0.224, unpacked it and attempted to compile it. The command I used was perl Makefile.pl This seemed to work fine, but when I try to run make, I get the following output (below). The relevant bit seemed to be about 6 rows from the bottom - a message that I should recompile with -fPIC I tried running perl Makefile.pl -fPIC make and got the same error. So what should I try next? Is there another way to set the channel on the card. I've tried xawtv (which crashes) and Kwintv (which realizes that there's a video card available, but doesn't recognize any input when I run a channel scan). I have a running vcr attached to the card (the card was intended for transferring old video tapes to dvds) but have not hooked it up to my cable connection yet. Juvenile antics on the list

Hello, everyone. I've been on this list a long time, and some of the posts in recent days are concerning me. I am also aware that this message makes me flame bait. My asbestos undies are firmly in place; bring it on. This list does not exist as a youth club, nor is it here to massage egos. This list exists for SuSE users to help each other with questions and problems that arise from being involved with SuSE Linux. Sometimes, threads will wander off topic a little, but that's OK. This list is full of clever people from all over the world, with different cultural backgrounds and levels of experience. A little digression is only to be expected. I have included Patrick's reply below merely as an example. Telling people to RTFM or search on Google is not terribly helpful. For either of these methods to be useful, you have to know what it is you're looking for in the first place. This kind of treatment only serves to deter people from asking questions. Anyone remember a few years ago when Ben would dutifully send out the same answer again and again when the Nvidia questions would crop up ? That may have been above and beyond, but it made this list a happy place to be. I'm all for the "Teach a man to fish" philosophy, but sometimes, you just need a quick fix for something so you can move on and get past it. Don't forget, today's 'noob' is tomorrow's guru. Primary system means Day to day computer. As this is a home network I do not have a primary or secondary domain controller. I may decide to install one latter as I add systems, but since I normally don't have on any more then three at a time I view it as unnecassary. Yast client is started and lisa daemon is started. When you click on the Local Network icon, you are supposed to see your systems, correct? I have been running Suse 9.0 for my main desktop for the last two years, and after the hardest part (setting up my printer), haven't really had to configure much as it has just worked for me. The only reason I still have Windows is for games and the new one I am waiting for I doubt Microsoft will release for Linux. Hmmn, community desktop ... dread phrase! I wonder what that means. It makes me think we'd all better buy 9.2 mighty fast lest it turns out to be the last of a very fine run. :) Fish

I'm trying to compile gimp-print-5.0.0-beta2 in order to provide a driver for my Epson R300 printer. However, attempting to run "make" fails with the following message: In file included from print-image-gimp.c:30: print_gimp.h:36:21: gtk/gtk.h: No such file or directory print_gimp.h:37:26: libgimp/gimp.h: No such file or directory print_gimp.h:38:28: libgimp/gimpui.h: No such file or directory There is much more but this seems to be the starting point of failure. Has anyone compiled this version of gimp-print and if so what did you do to get it to compile? Or if anyone is using the R300 with SuSE 9.1 I'd love to hear from you to find out how you did it? Basically, if anyone has some useful advice on how to get this printer going I'd be really, really grateful. I'm using SuSE 9.1, KDE 3.3.1, cups-1.1.20-108.8, Kernel 2.6.5-7.108-default, gcc-3.3.3-41 Thanks in advice Eddie
