Greetings, Is there any information on the standard default SUSE groups and what purpose they serve? Also any information on what special rights or file rights this may give the group. For example CDROM. What purpose is this group? FTP? WWW? Thanks in advance, -- Doug

leafnode error message

Hi, I tried to install leafnode on suse 9 and when I run it, fetchnews -v -n I got following message: zaba:/home/wojtek # fetchnews -v -n leafnode 1.9.42.rel: verbosity level is 1 Leafnode must have a fully-qualified and globally unique domain name, not just "zaba". Edit your /etc/hosts file to add a unique, fully qualified domain name. "localhost.localdomain" or thereabouts will not work; it's qualified, but not unique. Please see the README-FQDN file for details. Aborted I looked at /etc/hosts and that is what I have: 127.0.0.1 zaba zaba # special IPv6 addresses ::1 localhost ipv6-localhost ipv6-loopback fe00::0 ipv6-localnet ff00::0 ipv6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ipv6-allnodes ff02::2 ipv6-allrouters ff02::3 ipv6-allhosts 127.0.0.2 zaba.local zaba What should I change there to make leafnode work? thanks for any input, Wojtek __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Virtual Install

I am trying to do a virtual install of SUSE 9.0 on top of WinXP. When I try to install the network module it keeps failing. Any suggestions.

how to change users home directories

I want to change a bunch of users home directories from /home and move them to /home/year7 but I want the username, password and directory content to remain the same. I can edit /etc/passwd and change to the new directory but how do I make the changes take effect? Unfortunately I can't use yast to do this. Thanks, Steve.

How are you not able to reach the network? Do you have a static IP for you SUSE machine now? Did you give you Suse machine a netbios name? Cause Windows will not be able to see it unless you give it a netbios name. I was thinking about setting up the named server, but I am not sure, if it was the reason of the problem or not. The network is still not working... Where could I find some solution? Please send the drive description (from within k3b). ----ORGINAL MESSAGE---- ----tom_is_my_name(a)yahoo.com---- I installed a new CD-RW drive on my desktop running SuSE 8.1 Professional Linux. Right now, I have two drives in the system. A regular old CD-ROM and this CD-RW drive. My CD-ROM (/dev/hdd) can read CDs just fine (audio or data). I tried to install a later version of K3b to no avail. It made me update to KDE 3.1. That's a whole other (very long, painful) story...I am back to KDE3.0.3 (I think/hope). Bottom line is that I'm using k3b 0.7 right now. Prior to the KDE sidetracking, if I did "eject /dev/hdc" my CD-RW would eject. If I did "eject /dev/hdd" my CD-ROM would eject. Further, k3b correctly(?) recognized/recognizes my reader as /dev/hdd and my CD-RW as /dev/sg0. I'm pretty sure that those are in fact the right /dev files because if I do "eject /dev/hdc" or "eject /dev/hdd" the drive I would expect to eject does. Two problems... FIRST, WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE THE KDE3.1 SIDETRACKING: When trying to burn mp3's in k3b, sometimes (ie. rarely) the burn seemed to go okay. By this I mean that all the tracks are written and seem to be the right length. However, the tracks on the CD are nothing but static. Also, the very end of the songs--probably the last half second or so--seems to sound right. (Yes, it was set up as an audio project.) Most of the time though, I was getting the message "not all files have been buffered". I also noticed that the programs tccat, tcdecode, tcextract, tcscan, tcprobe, and transcode all seemed to be missing. SECOND, RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT, I CAN'T EVEN EJECT /dev/hdc (the CD-RW) ANYMORE AT ALL. I get the message: eject: unable to eject, last error: Input/output error I get the same message if I try to "eject /dev/sg0". Admittedly though, I never tried that before the KDE Sidetrack. However, if I go into K3b setup it STILL says the CD-RW is "Generic SCSI" and on /dev/sg0. I have the boot line in grub set for ide-scsi (or scsi-ide can't remember which offhand).
