Dear all, I'm trying to set up Ximian Desktop properly as KDE doesn't seem to like the Citrix seamless windows and crashes citrix connections (if anyone knows about this let me know!) So anyway, I'm rather puzzled by a couple of things ... 1. where is the screensaver control - the cc doesn't seem to have anything on it 2. why do all the fonts look bigger than in kde even more so for kde applications? and how to manage it. (just choosing smaller fonts in kde doesn't do the trick as they become unreadable there!) 3. how to mount cd / dvd on the desktop? if i run something like xmms it reads the cd but trying to right-click and add it to the desktop won't work (gives mounting error) and the file manager also doesn't seem to want to open this device. 4. talking thereof - is there any chance of watching dvd's on ximin? many thanks! j. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Newbie question - Found PCMCIA chipset "tcic"

Hi All, Here is a Linux newbie question, I wonder if someone could help me. I am tyring to install SuSE Linux 8.2 on my laptop. I booted from floppies and would like to install a PCMCIA network card so that I can carry on with a network installation. Now, after the kernel loaded and I try to make my PCMCIA work, during the PCMCIA module installation what I got is: 1. Found PCMCIA chipset "tcic". Please enter parameters for the PCMICA core module. I hit enter without typing in any parameters then I got a new message saying 2. Please enter specific parameters for chipset "tcic" I hit enter again witout typing anything else. Then the installaion tries to load something (presumable the tcic module) from the floppy and then I got a message: 3. Failed to load module tcic. Start of PCMCIA card services failed. Can someone help me with this, please? What am I supposed to do here? Load a special module from an other floppy? If yes, where do I find that? Or is there a better forum to post questions like this? How must different is SuSE from Redhat?

Ok, heres the problem. I am going to SANS Fire next month, and they strongly recommend Redhat 8.0 or less for a common model during the course. I went out and got Redhat 9.0, figured close enuf, but I really hate it. For one thing I cant get my PCMCIA NIC to load. So, I am planning on reloading SuSE 8.1 but wondering if that cud cause me problems. I did run into one problem with SuSE 8.1 and Yahoo messesgner. Instructions from teh Yahoo site, I d/l the rpm, but had to do a syslnk to a crytpo file to get it to work. No problem, but they did give me advice, I might not get that support as SANS. Shud I try and make Redhat work with my NIC, or chance SuSE? I am far more comfortable with SuSE, I know where things are, no need to hunt as with Redhat. I think any problems I might run into are slight, and problably do better with a distro I know. SuSE and Dell OpenManage Software

Has anyone had any luck getting the Dell Openmanage Software running under SuSE? They seem to have a bunch of kernel specific items in there, and some Red-Hatism's such at /etc/rc.d/init.d/function etc. Thanks, Ron

NFS ACL

The NFS ACL mailing lists mentions some fatal bugs http://acl.bestbits.at/pipermail/acl-devel/2003-June/001486.html I've encountered one of them, which crashed our (solaris) file server [big big fun] Does anyone know if/when SuSE expects to incorporate these fixes in the 8.2 kernel ? And if this list is not the right place to ask, where should I ask ? SuSE 8.2 and Intel Sound Card

Hi all, I just installed SuSE 8.2 on a Pent. 4, 1.4 Ghz machine and all is going well except there's no sound. I have an Intel 82801 BA-ICH2 sound card built in to the motherboard. Strange raid init sequence
