I have Apache2 installed along with apache2-mod-php4 on Suse 8.2, however, Appache apparently does not see it. Using webmin, it also does not show up in the modules. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it? Art

YoMama again

OK, I came to no resolution with my last attempt to resolve my "YoMama" hostname and "sofa.de" domain occurance that resulted in my last install attempt. Here are the few things I can nail down about he issue. 1) Installing suse 8.0 pro 2) I am not booting from any of my CDs as a repair disk (no CD in the drive). 3) each time I've attempted an online update after the install i get the GPG package error related to online updates using YAST (i download the rpm that supposedly fixes this error). 4) I then continue the online updates with occasional erros related to online update not being able to locate or download certain rpm updates (after many attempts, all but 2 of them get installed without error). 5) sometime during the process of online updates I lose he ability to open consoles in KDE and get an error denoting such (I think this is related to the system having its hostname changed to "YoMama" during the update phase). 6) At this step I reboot, and the system name has obviously been changed to "YoMama" Does Anyone have any Ideas? Is this caused by one of the online updates installed by suse 8.0 online update in YAST? Updating Menus in KDE

I have installed a number of applications using apt and now want to update my kde menu. I know I can do this manually, but was wondering if there was a way to do this more automatically. I have used the command 'update-menus' at a shell prompt in other distros and seen menu entries that would do this, but can't see how to do this in SuSE 8/2. Any ideas? Thanks.

For the synaptic fans that miss the program in 8.2, it's back. Version 0.36 is available via the "extra" apt component of the 8.2 apt repository on gwdg.de. At the same time a new version of apt can be retrieved from the same location. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Errors after enabling scsi support for writer

Hello Suse Linux users I wanted to burn CD'd and so followed instructions in Suse Database support (http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/pohletz_ide_brenner.html). I am using Suse 7.3 with win4lin 4.0 in a Toshiba Satellite 5105-501. What I did: (1) edited rc.config to add "ide-scsi" (2) edited lilo.conf and added "hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" (3) typed-> mk_initrd <- and then typed ->lilo<- (4) added /sbin/modprobe ide-scsi in the /etc/init.d/boot.local file (5) typed -> ln -sf /dev/scd0 /dev/cdrecorder <- and -> ln -sf /dev/scd1 /dev/cdrom <- (6) wrote in /etc/fstab -> /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 <- and -> /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 Now, I have the following problems (1) cannot mount CDROM -> the error message is "mount /dev/cdrom unknown device" (2) cannot burn cd . The error message from KonCD was "no CD writer found" (3) at boot time comes this error message "ERROR - cannot fsck because root is not read only" I thank you all for any help Eduardo ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eduardo A. sending automatic mail

Hi folx, Can someone give me a pointer please. This is SuSE 7.1. I want to be able to send mail as a result of something that happens within a program. The body of the mail is stored within a file. The mail server is on another machine on the network. I tried using elm with the command: elm -s "subject" to_address <file_name The created an e-mail with the correct details for to_address, the subject and the body, but it set the from_address to alan@YAST_ASK instead of the correct machine name. The mail server, which it found with no problem, quite correctly rejected this as 'Sender Domain does not exist'. So... What I need is some info on how to either set the sender properly, or an alternative way of sending out the mail. I think exim is only on SuSE's e-mailserver distribution. I personally prefer exim3 (haven't used exim4 yet) over sendmail & postfix. The biggest hurdle has been building it.
