Hot damn!!! It really works! Thanks to Richard Bosfor getting this for us. I have been futzing around trying to get sometiing later than .26 to work for quite some time now. And it looks a lot nicer than .26, too. Richard

Awesome...dumb question, but I'm new to SuSE (I'm running 8.2) and was wondering how to install from gwdg.de (I'm assuming this is a ftp site?) and how to populate the sources list (what are the available sources). I really want to use this to update some of the packages currently installed as well as perhaps get some new ones I've been having trouble installing. Thank you very much
Can I get a little more info on how to get it? I don't get the lingo. Tom On Tue, 2003-06-17 at 14:09, Richard Bos wrote:

Hi Tom! sure, the basics are in here: http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ if you read the man page for apt-get and apt-cache you'll get all the details. apt-get update syncronizes your package list with the source package list apt-get install packagename install packagename if its available and more current apt-cache search packagename searches the package list for packagename. -- michael ps: of course if you have synaptic installed you can just run it and update as well :-) On Tue, 17 Jun 2003, Tom Nielsen wrote:

I ran apt-get install synaptic, but it said I already had it....I have .26. I tried looking using synaptic and the update wasn't listed. I really couldn't figure what else to do. I'll try the link below. Thanks! Tom On Tue, 2003-06-17 at 16:20, Michael Galloway wrote:

Add the apt component "extra" in the sources.list file in the line looking like the one listed below: rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt SuSE/8.2-i386 update base .. extra Than do an apt-get update, now you can perform the apt-get install and upgrade actions. The new version of apt delivers a wrapper around apt-get called apt-rpm. apt-rpm accepts some rpm arguments like --test, --force, etc. Check man apt-rpm for details. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
I've been to that link and to the link saying...get synaptic here. But there's only .26 in there and not .36. Have you actually installed .36? Tom On Tue, 2003-06-17 at 16:20, Michael Galloway wrote:

I have just tried to download the new apt and synaptic rpms, but they all just seem to be broken links in that directory. Andre, the pkgs have been updated, but the repository not yet (the old pkgs removed too early sorry). You have now 2 options, follow the link to the destination directory (something like: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/apt4rpm/suse/8.2/) and download and install the newer rpms yourself. Or wait some hours (estimate 3 hours) till the repository is in sync again. The last option would give you a updated version of synaptic (0.37) as well (an hour ago released or so :) -- Richard
