Where's the gamma correct setting in KDE 3.1? I can't find it. (Indeed, the entire Preferences list is MIA, though maybe it's just been moved; I can find at least some of the things that were there in the control panel). (Of course, the email in which I complained of email sending troubles went through just fine. Dunno what's up with that...)

IMAP TO USE LDAP ?

Hi, I have a rather freaked out config here. i) I run a mail server and IMAP on a 7.2, ii) I run LDAP on another 8.1 server What I want to do ------------------ I want to authenticate my MAIL(IMAP) users on 7.2 from the LDAP server running on the 8.1 Server. a. Is it possible ? b. If yes then how ? Any help would be really appreciated, I have done the hunting on the web for the same, no one got it actually working on SuSE there were some who got it working on RH but they did not remember what was the magic cookie. Firewall2 - open UDP ports

Hi, I'm using Firewall2 to protect an mail gateway and I checked out the firewall with NMAP. The TCP scanning looks good - port 25 is open all others are closed. I scanned UDP and there were many, many ports open - what did I do wrong? Thanks, John

KDE3.1 --> KDE3.1.1 - What problems to expect?

I downloaded KDE3.1.1 from kde.org (rpm files dated 29.03.) but did not install yet. I am hesitating to do so since I remember some voices on this list reporting some problems. I use SuSE 8.1 with KDE3.1 installed. I would appreciate the list users to give known reasons (if any) against upgrade to 3.1.1. Are there any issues,how big they are, any known solutions etc? I believe such a summary might be useful to other people on the list, too. TIA cikasole

Proliant 2500 install question

Hello list. Has anybody had any success installing SuSE 8.1 Professional linux on a Compaq Proliant 2500 server? The install process hangs at RAMDISK: Compressed image found at block 0. 8.1 - Shutdown problem

I've been running 8.1 since launch with no problems, till last week when I installed a new Epson CX3200 printer/scanner. Following various pieces of advice found on the net, I got this working, but when I come to shut the system down, it hangs in "Stopping hotplugging services". The trace from /var/log/messages is reproduced below. I know more or less nothing about kernel and modules, but here are a few things I've found. 1. line 313 in usb.rc is the last line of the script (esac) 2. usb.rc does a rmmod scanner (with no args), which is presumably where the problem arises. (I'll try commenting out that line...) 3. the scanner.c module is the one distributed in 8.1, but with the following change to the probe_scanner routine. This is required to support printer/scanner functionaliy. >find the lines: > if (dev->config[0].bNumInterfaces != 1) { > info("probe_scanner: Only one device interface is supported."); > return NULL; > } >and make the lines inactive by commenting out. 4. Why is the 'probe_scanner' routine being called by rmmod? Should it not call disconnect_scanner? Any help in debugging this would be much appreciated. Politics on this list [OT]

About the only politics we can "safely" agree on this list is that Microsoft's raison d'etre is to make money by any possible means and the Linux philosophy is to create great software and disseminate it at low cost. Discussions on foreign policy, religion, morality etc. will only elicit strong emotions without genuine debate. I have very strong opinions on just about everything but I feel that this list is exactly the wrong place to express them unless they're germane to suse-linux. I respectfully request that we refrain from generating or acknowledging inflammatory statements.
