Strange raid init sequence

I suppose I should add that "md-personality-3" module to the initrd, but there is no such module. I search the software packaged with SuSE and couldn't find any project management software. Is there any that I might be missing? If not, where can I find a good one? Dell 2650/Perc3 Raid Controller easy switch??

I am currently using a Dell 2650 Poweredge server without a raid controller. It's using the standard adaptec onboard SCSI as it stands. I'm wondering if anyone has installed the Perc3 raid controller and had the Linux install just pop right up (assuming the megaraid module was loading)? I wouldn't need to reformat if all I was doing was switching controllers and hardware mirroring, right? Thanks, Rich shado(a)mc.net

Ethernet hubs question

I have, amongst my collection of bits, two ethernet hubs. One is by Netgear and one by Linksys. Both work. I have 3 machines, 1, 2 and 3. I plug them all into the Netgear hub. I log onto box 2 (at the console) and ping 3. Away to goes, every second. I open a tcpdump on 1 and watch the packets going by. I now plug all the cables into the Linksys hub and repeat the experiment. Nothing! When the machines are connected via the Linksys hub, tcpdump can't see the packets going from one machine to another, unless, it turns out, the machine running tcpdump is the one being pinged. The Linksys device is a hub, not a switch! I know, I paid for it! Anyone know why this is the case? Does Linksys stuff have some anti-snooping, don't-pass-through-to-promiscous cards sort of thing in it? -- Microsoft Palladium: "Where the hell do you think YOU'RE going today?"

A [different] Telnet problem

I have 2 pcs, A and B and a router R. raffic is routed from A to the internet via B acting as a router to R and R routing to an ISDN line. Router R has some capability of operating as a name server on behalf of the internat. If I telnet R from A or B, it immediately opens the ISDN connection, which I don't want, because it costs. Why is this and how can I stop it? More info. B has eth0 and eth1 interfaces, and runs SuSE 8.0. It also does OS/2, in which case everything works perfectly. I think ping causes the same problem on Linux, but again not on OS/2. I am wondering whether Linux sees the connection out and goes sniffing for routing info or Name Server info or some such. If this is the case, I would appreciate knowing what, and how to turn it off. Any help on this appreciated, so I can complete the migration of B to Linux TIA Vince Littler

I experienced the same problems. There seems to be a problem with the MySQL distributed with the 8.1. Remove it and go to www.mysql.com and download the latest stable and install. 8.1 pcmcia don't work

hey, i just upgraded a toshiba laptop that i have run 6.4, 7.1, & 7.2 on, to 8.1..................(just to see what all the fuss was), wow! what a change.........install was a chore as this machine won't boot from cd, i went through a whole pile of floppys before i found a few good ones to create boot and modules disks.........anyway my problem is during install, via NFS the pcmcia card worked fine - but after rebooting, the cards don't seem to be working or the card services are not starting during boot............the whole sysconfig thing is new to me and so is this "hotplug" stuff, can anyone explain how pcmcia card services are supposed to start now? i don't see anything in yast hardware about pcmcia, i did find and set up the network card, which BTW, i don't think i should have had to do AGAIN.............. YaST failer on install

Hi all I'm new to Linux (windows flunky trying to learn a real OS) so sorry if this question sounds daft or if it is the wrong mailing list. I am currently trying to install 8.1 onto a P2 300, 256MB RAM, 3COM NIC with two 60GB HDD's running off a promise fast trak 2000 raid controller in a mirror configuration, the box's job will be the office mail server running sendmail. Running the install is fine as is loading the promise kernel module. I start having problems after the first disk has finished installing a pop up appears saying that the YaST module has failed to install and then the install does not install the other modules off the other CD's. The CD's are brand new with no scratches and I have only used them a couple of times before on a test install that went through fine. Below is a list of packages in trying to install and partion sizes. Minimal Install with Pine, Pico, Sendmail, ftpd, ftp, php, perl, squirrel mail, open ssh. /boot = 200MB / = 2GB swap = 1GB /usr = 20GB /var = 12GB /home = 20GB My question is, is there anything obvious that I'm doing wrong that would cause the issues that I'm having.
