Firebird flash problem continues

I just loaded the new OSS soundcard driver for the patched kernel 2.4.21-144. I still crash on Flash sites (example: www.provia.com) with Firebird. I tried Mozilla, which used to crash with a "no Alsa driver" message, but now Mozilla won't run, with the following: "Error launching browser window:TypeError: Componnets.classes['@mozilla.org/appshell/component/browser/instance;1'] has no properties" This started with the fresh install of 9.0. I can't see why I need Alsa running, since it doesn't support my soundcard. I tried running Alsa with a device of /dev/null, and that suppressed the error message from Mozilla. BTW, if I remove the two flash files flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so from the plugins directory, Firebird doesn't crash, I just can't load the Flash stuff. I did a search on "cardbus" on SuSE Help on my 8.1 box, and there was an article on "PCMCIA CardBus Cards not being detected" which then refers to Sourceforge article. Don't know if it will help for your 9.0 box, as it appears to be somewhat dated, However, it might give you some more ideas to try. No fonts in kde, gnome after apt updating

I just recently ran a selective synaptic upgrade, everything except a few gnome packages that were going to replace ulb packages. I finished the upgrade in windowmaker because I was going to upgrade kde, logging into kde this morning k mail had no fonts. Konquror as well. the desktop however looked normal, it seems it's just kde apps. I tried gnome but gnome has no fonts anywhere. I ran SuSEconfig which didn't fix it. I have a edited sources.list base funktronics kde packman packman-i686 security update suser-rbos usr-local-bin wine Any ideas on how to get kde apps in kde, and gnome working again? Quick question: I use Evolution at home and now KMail at work. In evolution, I press Ctrl+K to mark messages as read. What's the equivalent in KMail? Alt+M-K-R is really a bit long. Is there something shorter? The KMail handbook lists a couple of shortcuts, but it's really only a few and not what I'm looking for. Thanks Hans

Samba printing problem from XP

I've got 3 boxes on a private net. 2 Linux 9.0 and one Windows-XP. One of the Linux boxes is setup as a Samba server/Cups server. From the Linux box I can print to the printer as follows cat /etc/fstab | lpr This works and causes the following to be written to the /var/log/cups/error_log file I [30/Dec/2003:06:24:01 -0500] Adding start banner page "none" to job 19. The XP box sees the print share as well as all the other "shares" configured. What is the magic trick to print from the XP box? K3b stops writing with "Unkown Error 254"

Hi All! I am using the default version of k3b which came with Suse 9.0 (0.10). I have tried writing as both root and my normal user, with various speeds, but it always dies at about 8%. Someone posted a bug reported on kde.org with basically the same problem although they say that they cannot write at all. This was reported about a month ago and it is still listed as "unconfirmed". I am using an AOPEN CD-RW CRW5224 and thing most annoying thing is that it did work once. Obviously something happened, but I cannot figure out what it was. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. wlan0 DSL HELP

Hi, I discovered that Suse named wireless NIC wlanX instead ethX. This it's ok but the problem is that DSL YAST module doesn't give me the possibility to choose it. With Any other distribution is possible to use wireless PCMCIA to use DSL connections. Any ideas? Thanks Andrea

Font Question - where to change

A while ago I was trying to get my ATI Card working.. And for what ever reason what ever I did, didnt quite work. My laptop has a default res of 1280X1600 and My fonts always looked big. The other day i was doing something and a crash happened. I then lost my lower taskbar, when I rebooted all my fonts were tiny.. I think this is how it should look like at 1280X1600 res. But now I am used to the large fonts. Where can I go to change it? I went through the right click of the desktop and went through the configure desktop menu and it seems to make my desktop icons nice but my apps like Mozilla, and Evolution are still small.. where should i be looking for these?? DHCP & Networking - HTH

Hi All I have been struggling for some time to configure Suse 8.2 for network & internet access via a 2nd old computer running Smoothwall 1.0 and usb adsl (although I would imagine this would apply to anyone using a router as well but don't know for sure.) But I now have had success. I provide the detail in the hope that it helps someone else. Ensure that dhcpcd is installed. If you have a message - as i did -similar to: eth0 [dhcp] ...no IP address yet ......backgrounding during boot and subsequent rcnetwork restart does nothing and ifup/down/status/config doesn't help either it may be that you need to identify whether the acpi is the cause of the problem (seems from forum posts that this is more prevalent on newer systems) boot into safe mode. If this reveals an ip number for ethx where x= the number for your nic go into YAST2 as at 2) below. An additional problem was self-inflicted in as much that I had scanned a number of forums/maillists for help and had tried lots of different solutions and had basically scrambled the eth0 configuration!! The process I went through therefore was: 1) a clean install of Suse. - I had been trying to set up my network for quite some time and had followed all sorts of advice from this list and many others and this had "clogged" up the process. 2) I amended the GRUB bootloader via YAST2 to include the "acpi=off" instruction. path= YAST2_System_Boot Loader Configuration. Then select "Edit Configuration Files" and in the section of the file headed "Linux" enter "acpi=off" (without the quotes) - I entered this after the entry for "hdd=ide-scsi" but I imagine anywhere after the "root=" bit would work. 3) My system is nVidia orientated so I then installed the latest kernel binary RPM to set up the nvidia mobo & nic. See: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/nforce/1.0-0261/ReleaseNotes_Linux_nForce… (or later depending on when you might use this note) 4) Restart the computer. (rcnetwork restart didn't do the job) 5) Test your browser connectivity and it should - hopefully - all be working ;-) Anyway hope this helps someone and my thanks to all who have tried to help me. humvee (still a n00b and proud of it)
