adding a mysql user

Greetings! I'm using Suse 8.1. While installing MySQL I created a user called mysql. The problem is now a /home/mysql entry exists and mysql has the ability to login. Can I just use /bin/false as the home directory for this type of user? Thanks, Eric

Hi, I dont know if this is relevant and probably isn't much help, but I had a similar set up and although Xcdroast and K3B all worked fine I have never got KonCD to recognise my CDRW or write a disc and I have tried on 7.3,8.0 and 8.1. So it might be an idea to try these other recording programs.I hace found Xcdroast very good. SuSE next release?

All I wish to say on this matter is to please wait, who cares when RedHat or perhaps Mandrake release their next versions, let them release buggy pieces of no good rubbish, but let SuSE fix installation issues and other serious outstanding bugs before it hits the shelves :). Lets please wait until after the release of KDE 3.1. Conntrack IRC and Nat IRC modules

Hello I'm wondering why SuSEFirewall2 doesn't load the IRC Conntrack and Nat modules on my SuSE 8.1 installation. It does load the FTP modules. Are there any security issues or any other problems with the modules or something? Thanks in advance.

Is Panasonic LC5 supported?

Does anyone here know if the Panasonic LC5 digital camera will work with linux? I've asked on a digital photo site (www.dpreview.com), asked panasonic and searched google. Panasonic said it won't but can be used fas USB storage. More fun with Nvidia and k_athlon.

Ok, more on the recent and never ending cludges with the nvidia kernel mods, drivers, Xserver, and Xconfigs. I updated my k_athlon kernel with the patch from the SuSe update dir (8.1) from x-66 ver to x-197 (or something along that line - you guys get the point). Now, as is often the case one must reinstall the nvidia packages after doing this, since certain aspect of the changes involved make the Nvidia mods unhappy/confused. I have had an extremely difficult time with 8.1 involving X, vid drivers, etc... Sax fails, I get a black screen, and when doing an lsmod I find the the formerly loaded modules agpgart and nvidia (formerly NVdriver in previous driver versions) is not being loaded. I have run ldconfig, SuSeconfig, etc... etc... I have tried install from both the *.rpm, *.src.rpm rebuilds and the tars, each time trying various methods suggested by both SuSE and Nvidia regarding their installation. Such things per NVidia like rpm -Uhv for the kernel mods, then rpm -e for the GLX mod followed by rpm -ihv for the GLX drivers. I have done a depmod -a at various stages, and basically everything I can think of to make this work (included a mk_initrd at various stages of my repeated attempts). I suspect this may be a problem with the binary nvidia drivers being made for the kernel install prior to the update patch. I have thought of getting the full rpm (rather than the patch) off the ftp site for the k_athlon kernel (which of course is larger). I wonder if anyone else has had similar problem, if so might you share your experiences/insights with any success or failures. TIA, Curtis.

can't mount nfs

I want to do this on the the server, 192.168.2.1: mount 192.168.2.2:/usr/local /mnt but I get this: mount: RPC: Program not registered does /usr/local have to be in /etc/exports on every client? It works fine via yast2 but it seems a long way around just to get a few files from a client. Cheers, Steve.
