Problems with new NVidia drivers

Hi, Anyone else using the latest NVidia drivers (1.0-2960) noticed problems with dropping from X to the consoles? When I hit CTRL-ALT-F1 for example to drop to tty1, I get a corrupted view of the console. I'm clearly at it, and I could type, but it's well munged! If I hit ALT-F7 it takes me back to X ok... Anyone else noticed this? Network Printing (One more time)

PLEASE HELP. It's that oh-so-common problem of the extra form feed causing an unwanted blank page at the end of every print job. SuSE's Support database mentions this problem, but for 8.0 all it says is "From SuSE Linux 8.0 on, configure the print queue without "formfeed" by making sure there is no "formfeed" set for the queue in /etc/printcap. The output of man 5 printcap displays all the possibilities available for your spooler (lprng, lprold, plp) to prevent a "formfeed" in a queue." This doesn't help me, as I've looked at man 5 printcap and don't get it. http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/ke_netprint-trouble.html Here's my info: HP Laserjet 5L configured with yast2 to use ljet4 driver. Everything prints wonderfully, and from the Suse 8.0 "server" that it is attached to, there is NO extra form feed at the end. The blank page shows up ONLY when clients (be they Win or Lin) print (via samba). I accepted all the defaults from Yast2 and it chose lpdfilter for me. I read online about adding sf to suppress form feeds, but when lpd was restarted it said to use ff_separator instead. Neither works. Also, my printer can print at 300dpi or 600dpi and I have it named lp and printer1 respectively to allow me to print at either resolution. I use printer1 almost exclusively, though. Before Cat eat the "mouse", how can i configure it ( :

Hi guys After failed to reconfigure my system due to red-carpets installations i reinstalled the whole system with KDE with SO default. When i was installing I pulled the mouse from usb and touchpad start working, later on i tried to activate mouse it didn't work. second installation this time i put the mouse back, but this time touchpad didn't work. And i reinstalled and now touchpad works but mouse not. I tried (ps/2,logitech,) from yast and nothing happened. My mouse is Logitec with two button and a wheel on top and it is connected to machine through usb hub. How and where could i fix this "mouse" before the cat eat it (: (:->? Problem with two network interface cards (NIC)

Hi, I run SuSE Linux 7.3, kernel 2.4.10 - 4GB on my PC. When I install a second NIC (eth1), then eth0 will not take/accept any IP address from the DHCP server at my ISP. I connect to the Internet over a cablemodem. As soon as I remove the second NIC from the PC, eth0 works again properly. I have tried to configure the NICs with Yast2 and to edit the configuration files by hand. No luck. I have no problem to run the same two NICs on the same PC when I run Windows 2000 Pro (Dual boot). The two NICs are both 3Com Etherlink XL PCI Combo (3C900-Combo). I have never seen any error message. There is no IRQ conflict. Anyone with a good idea? Thank you for your time. What does sendmail do? WAIT! Before everyone shoots me a "it sends mail, stupid!" email, let me clarify. Do I need sendmail if I'm using evolution to access an email server from my ISP? I thought sendmail was something that was used if my machine was an email server. How far off am I? Tom

Compressing folders for backup

I need to compress entire folders so I can backup to a CD. What should I use? Bzip and tar don't appear to have the ability to do this. I am going to do a complete fresh install with version 8.0, and want to save a lot of data. TIA Harry G

Intel PCI EtherExpress Pro 100 (eepro100) network adapter

I'm having problems with an Intel PCI EtherExpress Pro 100 network adapter in a IBM Netvista (onboard). When I install Suse 7.3 connecting to a ftp server it hangs. I had to add another network adapter (3COM 9x5) and the installation went fine. After installation, when I work with the EtherExpress the box hangs after a few hours. When I work with the 3Com it goes fine day after day. USB Help Please with SuSE 8.0 Anyone??

Hello all, I'm running a OV511 and a QuickCam VC Cam's on my AMD 18+ 512MB with a Nvidia MX200 with SuSE 8.0. Now I had both of these Cam's working fine on my 7.3 install and was able to use the webcam utility that comes with Xawtv. 1st thing is that if I have the modules loaded for either cam's my bttv card will not be recognized at all. So I made bttv use 81 -2 and all was fine I can use xawtv to load all 3 video devices. The problem I have is that when I try to use the webcam utility or any upload utility now all I get are errors that there is invalid input: Composite1 or any other setting I try (Television, Camera, etc) and it won't load. Now with Camstream I can load camstream fine but when I try to start any of the Cam's I just get a black screen and thats all. Bttv works fine. As I had said, all of these were working fine in 7.3. Is there anybody that can give me a idea of what to do to fix this situation? My Rio500 doesn't work that well either but thats a whole other story. It seems they messed something on the USB on 8.0. Any ideas please?? Scott
