USB Help Please with SuSE 8.0

Hello all, I'm running a OV511 and a QuickCam VC Cam's on my AMD 18+ 512MB with a Nvidia MX200 with SuSE 8.0. Now I had both of these Cam's working fine on my 7.3 install and was able to use the webcam utility that comes with Xawtv. 1st thing is that if I have the modules loaded for either cam's my bttv card will not be recognized at all. So I made bttv use 81 -2 and all was fine I can use xawtv to load all 3 video devices. The problem I have is that when I try to use the webcam utility now all I get are errors that there is invalid input: Composite1 or any other setting I try (Television, Camera, etc) and it won't load. Now with Camstream I can load camstream fine but when I try to start any of the Cam's I just get a black screen and thats all. Bttv works fine. As I had said, all of these were working fine in 7.3. Is there anybody that can give me a idea of what to do to fix this situation? My Rio500 doesn't work that well either but thats a whole other story. It seems they messed something on the USB on 8.0. Any ideas please?? Scott

KDE 3.0.1 update...how-to?

I've searched the list archive, the ftp sites, and checked on the SuSE LinuKS web page...why doesn't SuSE include a how-to for users updating to KDE 3.0.1? I assume SuSE would want to maintain the usability/stability of thier product by including a small instructional page on the site. I appreciate the effort that went into providing all the rpms for KDE, but please complete the value-added process by giving users some instruction. My previous experience with KDE updates has not been so wonderful. I hope this will not be the case with SuSE. Off I go....

Hi SuSE, I just installed over the weekend, OpenOffice 1.0 using Red Carpet. I am impressed, to say the least. I've been looking for an alternative to Corel Presentations 9.0. I have been using Corel Presentations on my Window$ box since Corel 7.0, but haven't really had a comparable program to use on my Linux box (SuSE 7.2). OpenOffice looks good enough to be that replacement. I couldn't find a way to play a CD as background music - ala Corel Presentations. Could this be achieved by writing a cron or some other script to run the CD player at the same time as OpenOffice Presentation program runs? If this can be done, where do I go to find out how to do that? I really am a newbie. I began my Linux experience with SuSE 6.4 Pro ( bought at best Buy in May, 2000) I had to join the local LUG to get that installed as a duel boot. The guy that helped with the install said it was almost as hard as installing Debian. I lost my 6.4 when I had to install Windows 98 upgrade to 95 for firewire use in my work (I do a lot of graphics intensive printing and slide presentations and Audio/visual videos). When 7.2 came out I bought it and a basic Athlon computer for the SuSE 7.2, no more dual boot. It looks like I may be able to eventually become a totally Linux user. I don't like Microsoft at all, and would use Linux exclusively if I could do my work on it. OpenOffice 1.0 is very encouraging. Now, if someone would only come out with a Linux desktop publish program I'd be set. If anyone can advise me as to how to play CD's with OpenOffice, I'd be ever so grateful. pnpdump could not detect my isa modem

Managed to configure and use my internal SupraExpress 56i V.90 SUP2720 modem with SuSE 7.2. Bought and installed SuSE 8.0 over the weekend and pnpdump could not find anything. Please help. Thanks.

spin-down / sleep for 3ware raids?

All I get is a blank X-window display with no windows, thus I used the other method. My server is running SuSE 8.0 with a pretty vanilla setup. I would far prefer to get the above working, but I'm not really sure how to start troubleshooting it. I tried setting the DISPLAY variable manually before the above line, but it did not help. Alsa and digital SBlive Platinum

Hello, I've installed SuSE 8.0 Pro on my system which has a Creative Labs SBLive! Platinum sound card. When I play analog sound, I can control the volume with the kmix mixer, but not treble or bass. When I play digital sound (preferred), I cannot control any aspect of the sound card - not volume, treble, bass, or anything else. Is this the best that Alsa has to offer for this card? Or is there something that I am not doing correctly? Thanks for any help, Steven
