X Font Server and KDM

Have upgraded to XFree86 4.2 and kernel 2.4.17-36 kernel to solve some nvidial problems. When I boot, I cannot get gui login. Boot message file has the following info on this. I upgraded ALSA to get the sound card working, Now I don't even get the gui login screen, have to do console command login, then start X. I the X Font Server problem perhaps related to not being able to get the gui login. Art

Location of PCMCIA sources?

Hi all, When installing the latest official SuSE kernel for 7.1, 2.4.16-4GB, there are some PCMCIA rpms that go along with it. However, I can't find the sources for the pcmcia modules on the ftp site anywhere, and they don't seem to be part of the kernel source rpm for 2.4.16. Does anyone know where to find the sources for the pcmcia module posted with the kernels? Thanks, -ronc

I am attempting to install evolution 1.0.2 from RPM on a SuSE 7.3 system, and am having quite a time with the dependencies. I think I remember someone here going through the same thing not so long ago, but I cannot find a search interface to the archives, so if someone could point me to some useful info on what packages I will need so I can batch them up and download them all at once, I would appreciate it. Help Installing Web Application

I'm attempting to install a program WebMO (http://www.webmo.net) and am encountering difficulties due entirely tot eh fact that I don't know what I'm doing. I have Apache installed on my SuSE 7.1 computer and use Netscape 6.2. I've made no changes (of which I am aware) to the Apache installation. WebMO has a perl installation script which asks a number of questions before installing the application. That's where I have problems as I can't seem to tell the script what it needs to know. advice for network card and DVD

Hello I am considering the purchase of a new box with a network card and DVD reader.Never had any of them before . And would not like too many troubles installing them. I guided myself from several posts on the list for the choice of the various elements of the system, but I still have a few questions. 1) The vendor proposes a 3Com - 3c905 CTX network card. Will it work with SuSE 7.3 ? I saw it was not in the Yast2 list, though there were several 3Com cards . 2) As for DVDs , can any standard reader work , as for CDs ? problem with partitions and disk geometry

I am a bit puzzled here... I have a 60 Gig drive that I am trying to mount from Linux (SuSE7.3) and am having a bit of trouble. I have partitioned/formatted this drive as FAT32 on purpose because my simple home network is a mix of Linux and Windows, and the Windows systems need access to the 60Gig drive. FAT32 simplifies things on the Windows side. The drive does NOT have an OS installed on it - it is purely a network/storage drive. The drive is partitioned into 3 simple partitions: 20Gig, 20Gig and 17Gig. In Linux, I can only mount hdb1, the first 20Gig partition. I cannot see the second and third partitions while in Linux. If I boot to Windows, I see the 3 partitions, and can read/write them without any problems. The second and third partitions are definitely there, and active. Sound Volume

OK, I now have the sound working finally, but using Alsa mixer to set the volume is a little backward. Is there anyway to get the Inspiron 8100 volume control buttons to work to do this? Art

what is "remove protoname"?

I run Suse 7.3 pro standard instalation with KDE2.2.1. I found a lot of temporary files in the tmp directory with the following content: remove protoname=ICE protodata="" netid=local/big_one:/tmp/.ICE-unix/907 authname=MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 remove protoname=DCOP protodata="" netid=local/big_one:/tmp/.ICE-unix/907 authname=MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 I thought that error messages where normally send to the mailbox. What action should I take to remove protoname?
