Have upgraded to XFree86 4.2 and kernel 2.4.17-36 kernel to solve some nvidial problems. When I boot, I cannot get gui login. Boot message file has the following info on this. I upgraded ALSA to get the sound card working, Now I don't even get the gui login screen, have to do console command login, then start X. I the X Font Server problem perhaps related to not being able to get the gui login. Art
New info on the previous message. If I select XDM as the login manager, it gets to the login screen, but does not accept keyboard input and locks up the machine. Going back to KDM still results in console login. Check out the README for XF4.2. For some reason, XFS automatically starts after this upgrade (regardless of rc.config setting) There are instructions as to how to stop this. I don't know if this affects your problem though. ;-) -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871

Finally got the X Server out of the boot message by using insserv -r /etc/init.d/xfs per info from Suse website on XFree86 4.2. Still have problem of not being able to do gui login. If I try XDM, it still will not accept keyboard input, but at least now I can do cntrl +alt +del to get out of it.
