I have a GeForce2 MX card. I have installed the drivers per instructions in the SUSE install instructions. They seemed to install fine. 3Ddiag doesn't report any problems after I run switch2nvidia_glx script and set some X Config parameters. I still can't set a screen width of larger than 800 X 600 and everytime I try using Sax2 it eventually looses the mouse pointer and won't even respond when I try to resize it. I tried running a couple of games the book said would be good tests for the 3D drivers. They act like they are running and then abort without any errors reported on screen. I don't have 2 years to go through the log files either. Is there a way to make SUSE use the drivers when setting up the monitor like it does in Windows. I thought once the drivers were installed there would be some settings that would show up in Sax2 or somewhere else that would allow the monitor to have more resolution options, colors, etc. Any ideas how to verify the drivers are installed correctly, set up the monitor to take advantage of the new 3D capabilities and set up 3D to play cool games. I want to get Quake eventually and I would like to be able to play it. OpenGL is crucial to Quake. Thanks in advance! Robert Pollard

Linksys NP100 PC-Card fix for 7.3

This post is just for the record. This is a simple fix to a problem I was having with my network pc card (Linksys Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet - NP100) getting properly recognized under SuSE 7.3 (although 7.1 recognized it fine). Under 7.1 the proper device module 'pcnet_cs' was automatically loaded, but under 7.3 the 'axnet_cs' device module was incorrectly being loaded, so the network wouldn't work (damn). Anyone with the same problem can remedy it by appending the following to your /etc/pcmcia/config.opts file. card "Network Everywhere Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card (NP100)" version "Network Everywhere", "Fast Ethernet 10/100 PC Card", "2.0", " " bind "pcnet_cs" Sayonara! No sound in KWinTV video clips

When I save avi files from KWinTV, the sound is not saved. I get a silent video avi. I select the option to "Capture avi video + audio" in KWinTV and "record" is clicked on the line-in of KMix. Still no sound. Sound is completely working on all other aspects of this system. I can record wavs from line-in if connecting a portable tape player, for example. Yet if I try to record an avi from KWinTV all I get is silent video. The sound card is a Creative PCI 512, and I have the same problem when using a Creative PCI 128. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is? x386 problem

I´m having problems getting x windows to run when I´m logged in as a user. I get the following error message: fatal server error cannot open log file "/var/log/xfree.o.log But when I log in as superuser I can start x windows etc. Anybody know what the problem is or if it´s in the suse support database?

Dumb slowdown problem with KDE after 2.2 upgrade

Hi, I had KDE 2.1 from SuSE 7.3 CDs working fine. After upgrading to KDE 2.2 from SuSE ftp (downloaded yesterday) I have notices dumb problem with Konqueror - during browsing of either local or remote file system or ftp I've annoying got 1 - 2 seconds delays after each operation (like open, back, etc.). The most surprising this have occured just after upgrade, I am actually have not changed anything else. I have reinstalled KDE 2.2 again, trashed all preferences in ./KDE2, turned off various visual effects, set Konqueror to use inlimited amount of memory, turned off proxies. After all, nothing helped. Any idea how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Simple discription of my problem: When killing X the system crashes. Hardware: Nec Powermate I-Select XL3 1800 GiGabyte Helios (NEC special) MB 2x 256 MD DDR ram AMD 1800+ (irq13) AMD 761 Northbridge VIA 686B Southbridge Com 1 & 2 (irq4 & irq3) LPT 1 in ECP&EPP (irq7) USB controller (irq10) 1.44MB floppy drive (irq6) Logitech Wheelmouse (irq12) Standard 104US keyboard SB Live Value (irq19, irq10 in win-98-se) IEEE 1392 (irq5) Leadtec Nvidia Geforce3 (irq16, irq11 in win-98-se) Seagate 80GB IDE (irq14) Pioneer DVD IDE (irq15) Goldstar (LG Electronics) CD-R IDE (irq15) Trust Atlas USB modem Nec VR17 monitor Standard NEC box with 235W power supply Software SuSE 7.2 Dutch Profesional SuSE 7.3 US Personal (test) Installation problem with 7.2 & 7.3 Installation crashes after the first reboot, when testing the X-server. This happens when installing in graphical and text mode. Detailed problem with 7.2 After installing X with an Diamond 3dfx Voodoo Banshee AGP card. Activating X with fbdev, nv or nvidia (1541, 2313) is fine (gears shows 190, 330, 5000 and 4000 fps) but shutting down X crashes the system. The standaard KDE logoff sound (boing) keeps on repeating. The only option is a power off. Updated SAX2, Hwinfo, pam_devperm and added all users to the 'video' group. Sax2 cannot be started. It always crashes when going to X. Used -m 0=fbdev or nv or nvidia but no go. Both the 1541 and the 2313 Nvidia SuSE 7.2 drivers have the same error. Compiled kernel 2.4.4-4Gb and 2.4.4; same behaviour. Compiled nvidia from tar. Same behaviour. Removed Mesa. Same behaviour. Removed riva. Same behaviour. AGP 2x in Bios, same behaviour. Disabled fast writs in the bios. Same behaviour. Hello, Toss up on which list to post this, but this one won. What is all the stuff in: /usr/src/linux-2.4.10.SuSE/arch/sparc? Is this what I'm hoping it is? It would be nice to not have to buy yet another version of SuSE for my sparc. Am I dreamin'? BTW, this is in 7.3Pro. If this isn't what it is, then why is it there? I'm just very curious. How do I mute a sound source?

Hello all. I have found a program that does just about all that I want it to do for recording radio to my HD on Linux. KHdRecord at http://software.jodda.de/ . It seems to be a nice program so far. Now to my question. How can I mute specific sound sources on Linux? Such as if I want to record through my Microphone but I want to play a game, or listen to MP3's etc... without hearing the input from the Microphone? I know that in M$ WinDOS I can just click on the mute button for the Micophone or turn the volume all the way down. Also. Is there a way to control the volumes of seperate sound input sources? If needed I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live and am using SuSE 7.3 Professional. Thank you, James Ruhsam Tampa, Fla. usA
