Thanks for the tip Tom - although the file /etc/modules.conf had no references to sound-slot-1 or sound-service-1-0 I simply added those two lines to the file and then the problem was solved. alias sound-slot-1 off alias sound-service-1-0 off I meant those messages only appeared in the console log when logging in as system administrator (root) as opposed to login as any other user. On looking at Yast2 hardware setup for sound, I noticed that the ES1371 card had been automatically configured from my old settings during update, but that an additional card '5880 Audio PCI' was listed in the list box titled 'Sound card to configure'. Perhaps the console log was somehow referring to that card as sound-slot-1 ? I'm beggining to think that it will only work right with a US keyboard. So toworrow I'm going to try other telnet programs on the system. Back in WWII, US fighter squadron pilots would often fly under radio silence. But things get lonely up there in the cockpit, so after a while there'd be a crackle of static as someone keyed his mike. Then a disembodied voice would reply, "Who dat?" An answer would come, "Who dat say who dat?" And another, "Who dat say who dat say who dat?" After a few rounds of this, the squadron commander would grab his microphone and yell, "Cut it out, you guys!" A few moments of silence. Then... "Who dat?" autostart apps

I have an app I want to start up automatically every time the PC is booted into KDE. I added a command to my .bashrc file in my local directory, and the application starts up, but then it keeps opening again and again and again. Hi Eric and Deborah, You don't even need to edit /etc/atalk/netatalk.conf - in SuSE 7.3 it comes ready to run. And what is this "reboot" of which you speak? Once installed, just run /etc/init.d/atalk start from the root prompt. Have fun! (1) Go into YaST2 Control Center (unless you're already root, it will prompt you for the root password) (2) Click on "System" icon on the left side. (3) Click on "RC-Config Editor" (4) Expand the section called "Start-Variables" (5) Inside Start-Variables, expand the subsection called "Start-Network" (6) Under Start-Network click on "start_atalk" and set it to YES. You may have to restart the Linux machine.
