Hey, I have been following most of the Nvidia thread and I have a few of my own probs with my card to ask. Here is my setup. I have a Viper 550 AGP for my PII 400 w/ 256MB of RAM running KDE2 installed on SuSE 7.1 Personal Edition. This is a fresh install (I checked on 3d acceleration when I installed my card...I suppose this was to install the mesa drivers)...I did the Yast 2 Control Update...which installed the latest Nvidia drivers (I think...any suggestions on how to verify this?) I can run Lokigames no prob...looks great. When I try to run any GL screensaver it crashes (klock comes up) with a signal 11 (SIGSEGV) Blender runs slow as dirt and I get a 'Default configuration 'mesa3.1' in init file' when I run it from the command line. Any suggestions? Brian D.

KProject sounds good. I would be available for some of the work (design, coding) on the project. Most of my experience (several years) is GUI based on the Windows platform using C++ etc, I also have a bit of experience with Java. I want to start programming KDE and this would be a good project to start on. I compiled my hello.c prog. #include <stdio.h> int main(void) { printf("hello world \n"); return 0; } gcc hello.c -o hello Normaly, I should get an exe file! But when I start it, I get only, that it couldn't found a file. But it's in the dir.. I guess somthing ist wrong with my shell. (bash-2.03) Where is the problem? How to get a kernel module loaded automatically

Ive replaced the alsa sound modules for sblive with the opensource ones. It says you should put in modules.conf alias sound emu10k1 but this doesnt seem to load up the module. What I havent figured out is what calls this alias on bootup. ( There is also a preinstall for emu10k1 of soundcore ) I can make the alsa ones work ok Just want some info on how the modules are called, and how the kernel/modprobe knows where ( which dir ) to find them. dids

rpm problem

Hello, I made a mistake. I deleted some directories and files that are installed by rpm. I wanted to install the packages again, but I got always the message, that the packages are allready installed. But I don't know how I can figure out this problem? Have I to update any files? I'm new to SuSE and have come to the party after several years of messing about with various distro's...I like the SuSE approach and think I have finally found a Linux "Home". I was wondering if some problems of multiple sound card module.conf entries was at all common under 7.1 or if it may be just some funkiness in my setup. It took me awhile to finally start poking around in the modules.conf to see that these appartently superfluous lines were what was causing post installation error messages in the xconsole window after KDE startup....they appear to be duplicate alias entries for my card... Just curious.... Paul

It is fixed. I just had to restart the cups daemon after linking the backend to the smb print spooler. DUH! Strange Udp ports

Hi Susers, just to check the security of my machine I run "nmap -vv -sU mymachineip" from another box on the internet. nmap returns that udp ports 137, 138, 272, 464, 635, 929, 1110 1464 and 2002 are open. I run netstat from my machine and I note that only 137 and 138 are really open, not the others. Furthermore, 137 and 138 are firewalled with ipchains (-j DENY option). Can anybody explain me why nmap does these mistakes, if they really are mistakes? Why it sees 137 and 138 as open while they are firewalled? Thanks in advance Tazio

Installation problem (root image not found)

Hi, I have strange problem with SuSE 7.1 PPC. When I try to upgrade already installed 7.0 from 7.1 CD, I am always get message "valid root image not found". I have checked path to /suse/images/root, the root file is there. CD-ROM is spinning, and CD1 is mounted (after all, I am started Mac from this CD). I have choosen before install/update from the main menu: settings --> Debug (expert) --> force rootimage It did not helped either. Then I copied suseboot on my HFS /macboot partition, started from /macboot/, but the problem still exists. I did the same with 7.0, and everything was OK. What could be wrong? PS. I am currently downloading 7.1 ReiserFS boot ISO, may it will work. Thanks in advance Andrei

Hi! Currently I have configure Qmail in my Linux Box. Previous my Fetchmail is working find with Sendmail. But after I change it to Qmail . My Fetchmail did not deliver those POP3 account message to my Qmail User. Hi, I am not completely understood how to use SuSE mk_initrd script. I have compiled kernel (2.4.2 PPC) with my settings, run mk_initrd script. It throws me message: "mounting / as root. vmlinuz not found.". What I did wrong? Thanks in advance. Andrei

Savage 4

Hi I have installed a 32 Mb Savage 4 AGP card in my 7.1 system, using xFree86 version 4. The monitor is a CTX 17". I cannot get the x-server to run in 24/32 bit mode in anything other than 640x480, whether SaX2 autodetects or I do the setup manually using the Savage drivers. My old Riva 128ZX 8Mb card ran at this colour depth and resolution without any problem. Can anyone help please? Grant Walton. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. This is getting very annoying: Jun 5 21:52:49 mon-ami HylaFAX[6877]: sendq/q4: line 51: Null or missing number in job request According to what someone said on a Hylafax mailing list this is due to a missing phone number. I have now entered it three time via SuSEfax... Anyone ideas? Matt

I have found that if i telnet toanother box outside of my ineternal lan here an then telnet back into my linux box here , than i can telnet into the suse box from a windows workstation on the internal lan. I have this same problem on my suse 7.1 box at home. jack

I just setup a limited install of suse 7.0 on an older p100 that i had replaced for one of my users here at work. so i took advanaged of having the older machine for my use as a linux box. I installed suse 7.0 on it since my 7.1 cd's were onlone an not got them back yet. I use the dvd at home so did not need the cd's at the time. Ok i get it installed an up an running with no trouble besides xwinwodows an that old philips moniter. well i can telnet into the box sometimes an not at others. i think that inetd is not being loaded at times or it just quits working for some reason. can anyone give me some pointers on what/where to look for the problem. If i go into yast2 an choose network/services, each time i go there the choice off don't start inetd is choose, this is that way no matter if i choose to load it or not. I have reset it to be loaded at bootup serval times an when i go into yast2 to check it out its choosen to not be loaded. Im wondering if maybe something is not installed that should be or was there an update for inetd. ftp does not work either that is one reason im thinking something maybe wrong with inetd or something else. thanks for the info jack

SuSE 7.1. Upgrade from 7.0, where mail worked. I'm on ADSL thru a Linksys BEFSR41 router/switch/firewall. Ok, I looked thru the graphical configuration on K-mail (it looks like Eudora, but there's less of it) and I don't see anything helpful. I can use Netscape, I can ping, I just can't send or receive mail. Please someone tell me what to do next. Thanx. --doug

Dear List, I am wondering if someone can help me. I am looking for the AnotherLevel package that is supplied with both RedHat and Mandrake, but that works on Suse 7.0/6.4 I have installed the RPM from Linux-Mandrake 7.0, and although the files are on there, Anotherlevel loads, but I cannot get the "lesstif wm" style to work. I really like this WM, has anyone got any ideas? Does anyone use AnotherLevel (lesstif style) on Suse? Any help you can offer is appreciated. What I want to do is the following, we have a number of mail address we use at home (like extra flashmail addresses, etc.) I want to set all clients up to send mail via my SMTP server, which sends it further to my ISP, but preserving the original FROM and REPLY-TO fields of the message. And for a number of addresses, I want to receive them on my server and have them delivered to local spools. I got the sending part working once with these parameters (in sendmail) # "Smart" relay host (may be null) DSsmtp:mail-out.pandora.be # who I masquerade as (null for no masquerading) (see also $=M) DMpandora.be It works, but if I send a mail: FROM guy.van.sanden(a)isp.com, it arrives as FROM: gvs(a)isp.com (gvs is my local userid.), and you can't reply to that because the address belongs to someone else. I would also like to send mail like FROM: me(a)flashmail.com or something... At this moment, all my clients are configured to use mail-out(a)isp.com to send mail, but the from header can be whatever I fill in. Can this be done? Thanks for any help!
