Quake 3 Arena

Hey, Trying to set up Quake 3 Arena...went out and purchased it from Stop and Shop Software (Ebworld)...$9 bucks...what a bargain. I install the game with no probs. Then after it finishes I try to run the game...well it tells me I have no default .cfg file in .q3a/demoq3...I looked in the .q3a directory...and all I have is baseq3 directory. So I copied the folder to demoq3 because I figured this is what it would do until I put my key in....but that seems a little clunky to me...shouldn't that have been done with some script during the install or the first time I launched the game. anywho, then I get a shared libGL.so error..which is probably my fault because I probably have no clue when it comes to shared object files...someone can tutor me on that is they wish or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. piix4 kernel module

Hi all, I've been trying to get my sensors set up and running with my mobo. I have run the sensors-detect, and it tells me that i need i2c-piix4 kernel module, but when it attempts to load it, it can't be found. So off I went and dug around in the kernel source and found the source file. I checked the menuconfig and made sure that i2c-piix4 was checked off to be built as a kernel module, then built the kernel and modules. However, for some reason I can't get i2c-piix4.c to build and create i2c-piix4.o. It just doesn't happen, no errors as far as I can tell. This is a 7.1 distro with the 2.4.0 kernel. Am I missing something obvious (probably :-) )? -ronc

Blender/Mesa Error

Hey, I get this when I try to run blender from the command line. 'No default configuration 'mesa3.1' in init file ' I have: Suse 7.1 Viper 550 w/ latest Nvidia Drivers I removed mesa entirely and am using the Nvidia GLX. Blender runs fine until I try to render something...then it is slow as anything. Any ideas? Brian "Soon to be an Nvidia Expert." Dunaway

Non-X nVidia card problem

Hello, When running in init 3 (no kdm) and the vertial console is not being used the screen should go blank (black). This is the way it worked before I installed a nvidia TNT2 M64 card. Now when the screen goes blank it actually turns white. This kinda defeats the purpose of screen blanking. Anyone see this (screen turning white during screen blank) and if so how do I fix it. Is it possible to screen blank to any color? Note that this has nothing to do with my problems related to nvida and kdm. Thanks, Terry

Increase swap size

Hi all, I am putting more RAM in my machine and probably need to increase the swap size as a result. Is that a valid assumption - that I need to increase the size of the swap partition/slice if I put in more RAM? I am going from 256MB to 768MB. The size of the swap partition is currently 128MB. I am using the ati drivers. I am checking the Xfree86 log and it does not load any TV tuner drivers. Look in /var/log/XFree86.0.log for the load of modules like fi1236 or msp3430 they are LiViD's drivers specific modules. Anyway, did you try to launch XawTV? If yes, what does it says? Bizarre CGI threading problem with apache 1.3.19

Dear All, I've been banging my head on this one for a while, so I thought I would beg for your help. I have written a perl script that should fork in to several different processes (8). Part way through this script, the parent process of these 8 sleeps for a period, wakes up, and kills any of the 8 processes that are still running. What actually seems to happen is that all 9 processes (the 8 kids and the parent) all sleep at the same time, all wake up at the same time, and hence the child processes never have time to do their work. Is there anything I can do to prevent this behaviour??? I'm running apache 1.3.19, mod-ssl and perl version 5.005_03 built for i586-linux. The perl code mutithreads correctly when run as stand alone. I would be extremely grateful if you could reply by email. I have added Load "v4l" to my Xfree86config file. I also compiled XawTV 3.49. When I restart the X server and check the log file it does not show any TV card capability. Try to use GATOS (http://www.linuxvideo.org/devel/data/gatos.tar.gz) It should be easy to compile. Then use xatitv to watch TV. I know that they say to use ati.2 drivers and XawTV on 4.x.x but before I upgrade to AIW Radeon I used to use xatitv with an AIW 128 16Mo with 4.0.2 with great success. At both locations I'm using the linksys cable/dsl router to share the dsl connections to the lan. Had to go with that at work with money being in short demand an did not have the extra box to use suse on for sharing the internet. Well your theory of the host.deny would be a nice suggestion if only it did not let the lan side connect after making a connection from outside the lan, but im able to connect from the lan after connection from outside the lan. Can it possibly be that in your hosts.deny file it does not allow local IP's to connect and non local IP's to connect? Also, do you use a proxy server? The proxy server may change the IP. I am just guessing here. I posted this to the list yesterday thinking it was an inetd problem but im not sure now. I'm having trouble telneting an ftping into my suse 7.0 box from the lan side of the network it does not seem to let me connect. If I connect from the internet side it lets me in with no trouble, then I can try to telnet/ftp into box from the lan side an it will let me in but only after making a connection from internet 1st. I have this duplicated on two different suse boxes, one at work running suse 7.0 2.2.16 an at home running 2.4.2 kernels.
