Im examining the possibilioties for a groupware server: Current demands: - calendar sharing - email adress sharing - clients should run under WinXX as well as Linux/SunOS Ideally groupware server should run on a Linux box . Any suggestions ? Rationale for pricing policy ?

Hi, I'd like someone from SuSE to answer this question, if possible. I'd like to know the rationale for the pricing of the SuSE 7.1 for the Sparc platform. These are the prices I can see: SuSE 7.2 IA32 Pro EU:65,95 SuSE 7.1 Alpha EU:50,11 SuSE 7.1 PPC EU:49,- SuSE 7.1 Sparc EU:159,- Now don't get me wrong, I do think that SuSE linux is money's worth, but why should the Sparc package be worth more than twice what the others are ? I'd also like to state, that sooner would the netherworld freeze over than I'd spend EU:160 on an operating system for an IPX that I got for free ( I would have considered it thouroghly if the price was about the same as the others... ) I have one Sparc, one Alpha and several IA32s, and there's a lot of difference on EU:165 three times a year, or EU:276 three times a year ( 495 vs. 838 ! ) -tosi

[SLE] Windows/Linux is bumming me out

Ok. First thing, there was a guy name Jonathan on this list who was trying to help me re-install X. Well, on my dual boot machine (Windows 2000 Pro./SuSE 7.0), something has happened to the boot table(?), so I can't boot into Windows to use my ISP. Right now, I'm limping along on one of my old machines. I get the IRQ list, and then nothing. I think I can still boot into SuSE, but I have some data on the Windows drive that I would like to rescue thru Linux. If I can get my X working again, I could use XRoast to burn it to a cdrom and then I would have to reload both Windows/Linux cause after more than a year I am still not comfortable using Linux. If anyone can help me troubleshoot/advice on this, a round of drinks will be in order, especially for Jonthan. thanks, -Chris Miller

KDE 2.1.1 crashes on start

OK, I have fixed the problem with dcopserver not starting. The problem is that in the KDE 2.1.1 update folder the qt-experimental version will NOT work with KDE 2.1.1. It should be qt-experimental-2.3.0 but for some reason they have put qt-experimental-2.2.3. The correct version is available from ftp.kde.org. However, now that that is fixed, when I start KDE I get crash warnings like the following: KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: application name: ksplash path = <unknown> etc. for ksplash, knotify, kinternet, ksmserver. Then KDE crashes completely and exits. Any hints? Nothing was turned up in any searches. TIA Corvin -- Corvin Russell <corvinr(a)sympatico.ca>

nvidia drivers

Hello everyone I'm installing my nvidia based videocard. I downloaded the 1.0-1251 drivers, but in the readme file I found this part: "This file describes how to install, configure, and use the NVIDIA Accelerated Linux Driver Set. Please refer to the following additional README files as appropriate: ALI_USERS_README - for problems with ALI chipsets TNT_USERS_README - for problems with TNT card with SGRAM/SDRAM LAPTOP_README - for instructions on how to set up your laptop system TWINVIEW_README - for instructions on how to set up TwinView TVOUT_README - for instructions on connecting a TV " As my card has a TV-OUT and supports TWINVIEW, I would like to set it up... Does anyone know the location of these files, I can't seem to find them on the Nvidia site... Thanks Guy

Sun Java Station 1 ??? Will it work with SUSE

Hi All, I am like most keen to experiment and play with making hardware and software work with Linux. I have found a person that has a couple of Sun Javastation 1 devices. I was wondering if it is possible to have these devices work with SUSE Linux. I am planning on building a home network with Sun Sparc based servers and Intel desktops. I think that these machines need to download their Java based applicaitons from a server to be able to work. Can this be done with SUSE ?? Does any one know of a source for Java applications covered by the GPL ?? Can this be done with any other version of Linux ?? Or will I have to use Solaris ??? I would also appreciate any guideance for the Specs i might need to have for a Sparc box to happily run SUSE for a less than 5 user network. I am familiar with Intel boxes and I just want to play with Sparc. I am planning on going the full hog and having Apache, Samba, NIS, NFS, Email, and a SQL database, and I will probably want to run them on separate boxes.
