The more I think about it the more I think you're right: the offending program is probably KMail who is playing silly games with the envelope. I am going to run some tests this afternoon using only one e-mail address at a time. I will delete the others from KMail. > I presume you've checked through all the kmail options? Apparantly lilo and my graphics card can't agree to get a 640x400 pic up, because it just showed the normal text menu with no penguins at all. So if someone has got a sample 320x200 lilo message file, I would be happy to try it out. Or even better: a sample list of options to mklilomsg that works with a 320x200 pic. (So I can make my own boot-picture.) Regards Ole

Setting up a SuSE-YOU compatible ftp mirror.

Hey all, I deal with several suse boxes and regularly get updates for them. One day I realized that it was beneficial for both me and (and other suse users with less bandwidth then me) to set up a small local FTP mirror on our LAN. So I set up a little bash script to use wget in mirror mode. It runs at night, when fewer people are on the server (Please note that this is not an aggressive script, it hardly ever gets more then one or two RPMs a night). Anyway, because I all my boxes are either 7.0 or 7.1, I don't mirrors the whole site, but only the 7.0 and 7.1 sub directories of the /pub/suse/i386/update and KDE2 directories. I have set up anonymous FTP on the computer that's hosting the "mirror" and SuSE-YOU can log in just fine, but it is obviously looking for something I don't have, because the following error happens: The little console says: Starting download of patch descriptions from 192.168.0.80. Connected failed : File not found on server Disconnected Then a dialog box pops up that says Can't get patches from FTP server. Please try to get patches from another SuSE FTP server. What is it that I'm missing? Arkeia backup questions...

I would once again like to pick the brains of some people on this list! ;) For those with experience with Arkeia, I was wondering if there is a way to have it log to syslog as opposed to /usr/knox/log/XXXXXXX (Arkeia readable logs only...) and also if there is a way to have arkeia automatically eject the tape when it is done. Right now I just have a cron entry with 'mt rewoffl -f /dev/st0' that runs early am every morning.. I would prefer arkeia to do this if possible but I have rtfm and cannot find anything on this nor the logging! Tia Eric

As I understood things, lines in a script that begin with a "#" character are ignored and can be used for comments. I'm confused though because I see other scripts that seem to use the "!" character to comment-out lines and use the "#" character to begin lines containing conditional syntax (if, endif, else etc). Hello Is it possible to use gimp-1.2 and xsane? When i want to install gimp-1.2 i've got an error message telling me that i can't because libgimp is use by xsane. libgimp-1.1.so.24 is needed by photocd-1.12-253 libgimp-1.1.so.24 is needed by sane-1.0.2-62 libgimp-1.1.so.24 is needed by xsane-0.57-24 What's appening? SuSE 7.1: Restart/Shutdown buttons on KDM

SuSE 7.1 Install Failure

Spent a considerable amount of time playing with SuSE for the past 9 days but to no avail. In general, I start the install with CD#2 ( CD # 1 simply goes to the text line about searching for installed hardware and then jumps the the left side of the screen on the next line and just blinks forever ) , then use the modules floppy which runs linuxrc up to the point of the kernel modules window and then from there says "error reading disk" no matter what I select. Can't even back out from this point and have to shut down the machine. On occasion the install jumps directly to the "loading data into ramdisk 2210 kB ..." screen which completes then jumps to a blank screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. At one point, and only once, the install made it to the linuxrc screen portion asking for info about the scsi controller. When I tried at this point to load the appropriate drivers the controller options asked for the parameters for the aic7xxx.c device. I have no idea what to put there so I hit return and got a text screen with a further load process eventually hanging with the following repeated continuously until I rebooted: "aborting command due to timeout: pid4, scsi0, channel 0, id4, lun0, test unit ready 00 00 00 00 00" I got this far only once and can't get there again. During the boot process the system provides this info: scsi: 0 hosts scsi: detected total I'm running a Adaptec AHA-2940U2/W based system but I thought that this card series was / is supported. My current (windows-based) system is running on the first hard drive, an IBM SCSI II 8.754 Gig, and my second drive ( for Linux) is an IBM SCSI III 17.5 Gig partitioned as 259 meg swap, 118 meg root, and the remainder for now just an extended partition. I'm out of ideas at this point. Even if this install had run, it was listed as a 2.2.18 kernel install which is not the version I want. I want to install the 2.4 kernel. Thoughts anyone? dave
