[SLE] improving xterm

I would like to configure xterm to set the title to <user>:<machine>:<xterm cnt>. and I would like this to show up in the text when I minimize it, I am using fvwm2 as a window manager. Can someone help me out on how to configure xterm? [SLE] Suse 6.3 + Compaq Smart array installation

Hi Any pointers how to install Suse 6.3 (or 4) on a EISA bus based machine with a Compaq Smart array? I managed to get to access the SCSI CD-drive though the other SCSI adapter (NCR710xxx), but Yast compains of no hard drives present. All this I did by compiling another kernel for installation disk with that NCR710xxx and Smart array driver, but why is Smart array on block tree, not in SCSI as while booting Linux can't see but the NCR host adapter? [SLE] laptop screen question

Hi! I've stumbled into a chance to buy an IBM Thinkpad 701CS for about $100 and know that Linux works on these. But this morning, I went in to reinspect it and noted that the top 40-50% of the screen looked like it was not working completely when Windoze started up. (The best description I can come up with is alternate stripes of working and nonworking pixels.) Things were still readable, but it was quite annoying. I played around a bit and noticed that if I moved the screen a bit, the problem would go away and stay away regardless of what angle I left it. Is this just some kind of subpar connection or is this thing about to fry? Might there be something less ad hoc I can do to fix this, other than buying a new laptop that I can't afford? Anyone with more experience/familiarity w/ laptops out there? Thanks in advance! ALSO, THE PACKAGES HAVE MOVED TO A NEW SERVER THANKS TO MANDRAKE. PLEASE CHECK THE LINKS BELOW. A new version of the KDE ALPHA binaries are available at us.mandrakesoft.com. Please read the README file in the same directory. Just in case you missed it "READ THE README" prior to doing anything! If you need help installing please go to www.kde.org and look for directions. These binaries are built from CVS as of 31 May 2000 at 12:00am Eastern Standard Time (-0500). Please bring all install questions to the un-official kde-alpha list at kde-alpha-request(a)nebsllc.com. Qt version 2.1.0 has been released. These binaries where built with the release package. You can get the released version used to build this code at any Mandrake mirror, or you can get it elsewhere. When you upgrade plese consider copying your old /opt/kde2 to an /opt/kde2.old directory and then installing. This way you have something to go back to. [SLE] HD Question

HI All,,, I was given a digital 245mb HD. I can only get it to work as the slave unit. I would like to use it as the master. On the bottom is three jumpers sp ds cs. When all three are open then it will work as ths slave unit. I tryed jumping each single and it would not work at all. Can anyone tell me how to set the jumpers as master? TIA! [SLE] Turning on the sound

OK, I've gotten the sound modules (sound, es1370) to load (via modprobe). I've verified it with lsmod. But how do I actually turn on the sound? I know that there's an extra step here, because if I type `soundon', the OSS utility does turn on the sound after issuing several dire error messages. Before I type `soundon', there's no sound; after I type it, there's sound. So is there a non-OSS utility that performs the function of `soundon' without complaining?
