[SLE] Linux network configuration

Hi everybody. There is an NT router in our network with the IP 10.10.10.1. That is also the DNS server. I'm using a linux box with the IP 10.10.10.80. programs like netscape are working well when proxy configurations are given. But all other programs (including ping, traceroute, every beautiful utility of linux networking you can think of) is not working. I'm constantly getting the error "Host not found." The contents of /etc/resolv.conf is the following: /* comments ... */ search jetpa.com.tr nameserver 10.10.10.1 Question is, how can I do a configuration so my normal network programs can work? [SLE] Linux friendly phone wiring & wireless LANs

Anyone have any experience with the phone wiring and/or wireless home LAN cards under 2.2.x Linux. I need an ISA card (parallel port second choice) for an older computer, a PCI or ISA card for the new computer, and maybe a PCMCIA card for the laptop. We moved into a new house and the two desktops are at opposite ends of the house. I'd rather not drill and snake cable between the two. [SLE] [SLE} RS/6000 PPC Linux

Hello Folks, I'm going to inherit a an IBM 42T. It has the "Power PC" silk-screen on it. Does anybody know or heard of anyone installing Linux on RS/6000 based hardware. Or is their bus just too proprietary for anybody to even try it. This box is old but it runs X with GLX on a giant card and a 20" monitor. I would hate to see this rare classic in the dumpster. I don't think I could afford a license to AIX. CS should be cable select , try it both plugs on the cable , one should be master , the other slave , make sure the other drive is se to slave . if they dont work as master , swich them around on the cable connecters. [SLE] Default editors settings

[SLE] System slow with 6.3

Hi, We have a Compaq m/c with Intel 810 chipset 550 MHz and 64 Mb Ram. I installed SuSE 6.3 on this m/c. We generally have more than one person working on the m/c. When more than one person logs into the m/c remotely and works on it, the system becomes slow. The 'top' and the 'free' command show 64 Mb as the total memory and around 61 Mb as the used memory. So, i increased the ram to 192 Mb. Even then, the m/c does not seem to have picked up speed. Also, the 'top' command still shows around 187 Mb as total memory and around 182 Mb as used memory. I cannot understand how even after increasing the ram, 'top' shows the memory usage as almost equal to the total memory. I never encountered this problem in SuSE 5.3. I somehow feel SuSE 6.3 is not geared for multi users logging in to the same m/c and working remotely. I think the m/c configuration is pretty good for a server, but only the OS needs to utilise it. How do you even get the penguin to appear? It popped up when booting the setup CD ROM (6.4), but when the actual system started, it didn't appear. [SLE] NN recompile under 6.4

Seeing that there was no quick solution to the problem of NN (not) running under SuSE 6.4 (it worked fine under 6.2), I decided to grab the latest sources I could find (labelled "6.5.6") and build it again. Now; it's been about 8 years since I last built nn, it was a bit of deja vu. But there were a few "funnies" encountered with the build under 6.4. 1) The linker failed when it was looking for libtermcap. I had one of them, but the linker failed to identify libtermcap.so.2* until I added a "libtermcap.so" symlink. Some sort of problem with 'ld' I guess. 2) The inews configuration called for a /var/spool/news/out.going/tmp to exist; posting failed until one was created with suitable permissions; chown news.news ; chmod ug+w,a+rx (keep the sticky group bit!) I'm using leafnode to fetch and post news. nn now works a treat. Minor problem with use on an xterm because the screen clears the final status message as the program exits.
