[SLE] Suse 6.4 Updates

Hi all! I was scrolling through the updates for Suse 6.4 last night and realized that there was a recommended update for kbase and kreatecd. I presumed that I should download these and keep my system as recommended by the distributor. After using Yast to install these rpm's I found I could no longer use Netscape. I received the error notice that the file /usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm could not be found by /opt/netscape/netscape. I cd'ed to the /usr/X11R6/lib/ directory and guess what? the file I'm looking for is there in all of it's glory, only it's linked to libXpm.so.4.11. Listed below is the configuratiion for my X86, the video driver and the monitor. Also, would you fellows from Suse please put a caution note with future updates warning people that installing the update might screw up their configurations and if they are unfortunate enough to get screwed up where thay might find the information necessary to remedy the error. Hi everyone. As a KDE user I thought I'd give Gnome a try under Enlightenment. It looks wonderful. I installed the stuff from the 6.4 CD's but it is too unstable to be useful. Even changing the screensaver causes a lock up and we have to reboot in single user mode and run fsck everytime. Is this just 6.4 versions or is anyone using Gnome/Enlightenment for any serious stuff? Any help greatly appreciated since the Enlightenment themes look like just the stuff we need. [SLE] No Reiser on rescue system?

Hi, people. The real purpose of this message is to report that the Rescue System, startable by the installator from the distribution CD-ROM for 6.4, is unable to mount a Reiser file system: it says that the type is unknown. I would have expected the Rescue System should have Reiser compiled in. The rest of this message is a mere chat. :-) I went back to my friend's house, yesterday, trying to help him to install SuSE on his old Pentium/SCSI system. Tried really many things, but the problem seems to be that his `aic7xxx' disk is just not recognised at boot time. So far that I can see, the `initrd' contents has all it needs. We also compiled a new kernel with `aic7xxx' built-in and put it on diskette, without LILO (the simplest possible), and the disk did not seem to be recognised. However, the disk is accessible by the installation system from the distribution CD-ROM or diskette, so not all hope is lost. I wondered if the problem might not be that `/' is Reiser. I am embarrassed to have missed the Qt version. I had Qt 1.33-11, and had omitted to update from my 6.3 CD to version 1.44-52. Obviously the old SuSE binaries would have been libc 5 and therefore completely incompatible with the updated KDE. [SLE] Automating mail collecting and sending

Hi This discussion list is a mine of information and I have learned a lot in a short space of time - thanks all! My internat gateway/mailserver is up and running correctly, and the clients are able to use software to instruct the server to connect as needed (I set it set up as non-dod). Now I want to automate the collection of e-mail and sending of queued mail; perhaps twice a day for each of these processes. I understand the basics of cron, but I can not get all of the processes to execute automatically. 1. Should I put the instructions in the system crontab or in the root table? 2. Are the commands executed one at a time dependent on the order in the table, or does the time setting play the most important role? Basically I want the server to use my ISDN connect script to dial up, then execute fetchmail, then execute sendmail -q, then hangup after everything is done. Any suggestions? I'm trying to get sound to work with a soundcard using the es1371 chip. I don't get the messages about starting up the sound during bootup (I've compiled es1371 support into the kernel as a module).
