[SLE] working with active log files

I need to automate Lotus Domino startup and shutdown. The Lotus Notes is one of those apps that dumps stuff to the 'console' as it runs. I need to capture this in a file which I will do by redirecting the output to a file callec console.log. The Domino server must stay running 24/7. I would like the log to be "cut" daily into a file named: console20000527.log and then gziped. how would I go about cutting the log daily? I know that I should use cron, but how do I create the filename that has the date at the end? How do I get the contents of the active log file (console.log) into the dated log file? How do I clear out the active log file while it is still being used by the Domino server? Should I do all this in one long command in cro or should I put it in a script file? [SLE] Yanq (Yet another newbie question): remote X access.

Dear list, I want to configure my system so that it automatically starts an X client at startup (xdm runs fine), so that I can run applications from a WinNT system. What is the best way to achieve this? (I don't need the graphical desktop systematically on my Linux system, but is installed and runs correctly.) [SLE] Why is gftp 200 times faster than xftp?

I just finished downloading all of 6.4 via ftp. It actually took me longer fooling around with various ftp programs than it did to download the distribution :( In the process of this I found that xftp ran consistently around 15k/s while gftp ran at 300-500k/s. Does anyone know why this is? I guess the advent of cable modems is showing the limitations of older programs. Even gftp crashed several times with segmentation faults. I was only trying ftp programs that could recurse thru directories. Are there any ftp programs out there which can recurse thru directories and handle symbolic links within the same directory structure? I wonder because the "full-names" directory caused me some problems, where gftp tried to download the same files twice. [SLE] configuring Postfix /w dialup ISP

Hi. I'm trying to configure Postfix on my stand alone PC to handle remote mail via my dialup ISP. Although my mail client, Mutt, gets the 'to:' and 'from:' header addresses correct, it appears Postfix changes my 'from:' address en route. My ISP rejects my mail: "Sender domain must exist." [SLE] Where to find SSH?

Where can I download the SuSE RPM for SSH? SuSE's web site explains that my SuSE 6.4 CDs don't have it because of US export restrictions and says that I can find it on one of the non-US mirroir sites. Well, I look at many of them and couldn't find any package having a name starting with "ssh". Is the package named something else? Do the mirror sites really have it? Can anyone give me more precise info than what is on SuSE's web page? [SLE] Windows on Linux

Hi, Is there any way to run a Windows 95 executable on my Linux 6.3 system?? I actually tried wine, but i suppose wine requires a windows partition to really run a Windows exe. If i am wrong, please let me know. I have a Linux only system in my office and i would like to see Windows exes also on my screen. [SLE] HP color inkjet printers
