I've run 2.2.14 on a 486 DX2 66 with no problems whatsoever. In fact, it goes without saying, it runs faster than "any other O/S" I've had on it. I do admint - all I use it for is a samba server, but it works hunky dorily fine! I had a similar problem running a K6-2 450 on a SSocket7 Mobo. I had to reside to the fact that I couldn't use the 450 and used a 400 with no problems. I got it down to a heating problem of some sort. Try slowing your Athlon down and see what happens. I'm not suggesting a permanent fix, just to rule out a few possibilities. What is the exact spec of your machine? What bus speed are you running it at and how fast is your memory? Have you tried a BIOS upgrade? Kev -----Original Message----- From: Raymond C. Hi, ** I am going to buy a cheap Second hand PC to run my firewall with my cable ** modem, what is the main 'feature' I should concentrate on, RAM, processor ** speed or disk speed? I won't be running X or anything, just the firewall ** stuff. I have an old Compaq P75 with 16Megs of RAM which does this job perfectly. It's running SuSE 6.3 or OpenBSD (depending on what I feel like :) You can get these from loads of places (Look in MicroMart - if you are in the UK as your domain suggests) for about £75. They have onboard 10baseT socket too so you just have to poke anther NIC in it and it'll work. It was in the os setting so I changed it to bios and it worked. This was a BX6 not a BP6 as I stated in original post. I have a BP, she has a BX. Just wish the curtainrod installation which preceeded it was as smooth as SuSE6.3 install. [SLE] Hardware install Questions....

Hi All & help, I have three devices off my ide channels so far & am about to add a fourth, viz HP-CD-Writer Plus 91001 :-) But I am wondering which channel to put it on? My six gig Fugitsu is udma 33 as is my cd-rom (44x). My two point 5 gig Fugitsu is a mode four thing. A geek friend down here said that if I wanna to direct cd-to-cd burning, then both the cd's would need to be on the same channel. Is this so? Because if I do this, I loose the "speed" of the faster Fugitsu.... So, is it ok too keep both the six gig Fugitsu & my cd-rom (44x) on the same channel & would I still be able to do direct cd-to-cd burning? [SLE] /etc/ppp/ip-up

Is the file /etc/ppp/ip-up read every time a ppp connection is established? I looked around quite a bit and coudn't find anything about that. I use a moden to connect to my ISP. I have been busting a nut trying to configure a few things just right and then I stumbled across this file with most of what I would like to do commented out. I would be quite pleased if all I had to do was delete a few # symbols and enter in some site specific info. Hi everyone, I just got a Quantum 10 Gig drive and because my bios only sees it as eight meg I need to use a drive manager program to correct it.
