[SLE] vmware - running but new woes

hi folks, finally got it running. (Documented story available soon - mail me if interested) However: 1)The gnome desktop or X-server vga keeps locking on me. That vmware enhanced svga-driver any good? 2) vmware pops up with "don't install amd-patch", but s'one here told me to do so. Is that the same thing? 3) Any other hints about vmware? Running vmware on a RH 6.1(sorry suseans, it's just one :-) ,(amd-k6, 128mb)with Redmond NT 4.0 in the window (HA!). [SLE] YAST RPM

Hi! Got a problem installing the Yast RPM for Suse 6.3. I downloaded the Yast RPM from the suse website and when I tried to install it I received the following message. "Failed on file /var/adm/mount. cpio: chown failed Read only file system. What's going on? Anybody know? Help is appreciated. [SLE] Matroxfb mission!

Ok, now I'm on a mission. Again I compiled in matroxfb support and checked off the G200 driver. My system boots properly if I boot into text mode but no matter what I put in lilo I get a blank screen if I want to boot into the frame buffer. I don't have my lilo.conf handy but from memory I have: vga=0x315 append="matrox:vesa:noblink,mtrr" >From the matroxfb.txt I am confused on how you separate the options and values with colons and commas so I have tried several combinations of the append line and I have used vga=ask. Is somebody out there using matroxfb support with a G200? What is in your lilo.conf? Phillip??? The vesafb works fine with the stock kernel but ever since I saw the matroxfb support I'm on a mission to get it to work. [SLE] remote mysql connection

Hi! Can someone please tell me how to connect to a remote machine running mysql - can this even be done through network? I have a server running mysql database and I'd like to connect to it from another machine and use the database - but I don't know how to connect or how t set up the necessary permisions ... I read the manpages, but since english is not my 1st language they did not make much sense to me... Can someone please help me with this. THX in advance! Thanks everybody for the good advice about libjpeg.so.62. Shows what an excellent list this is. I just downloaded Sawmill and librep-0.10. The latter complains about an unsatisfied dependency, namely libreadline.so.3. Does anyone know where to get it? (I know this is way OT. I have a comp. with hot swap. I had only one hard disk working under /dev/sda, but now i added a second hard disk(both hot swap), under what device does linux recognizes it? [SLE] HELP needed with hosts files

I am trying to set things up where I can do a rsh as root on one machine to another and not be prompted for a password. I am not able to get access at all. What options should I have in inetd.conf for rshd and rlogind? The box I am trying to get into is 'lily' and the box I am coming from is 'roses', how do I configure the hosts.* files? Do I need a .rhosts in root's home directory on lily?
