[SLE] Annoying font

Hi there, When I surf to certain pages with Netscape Navigator I sometimes stumble upon these annoyingly tiny fonts. I recall someone mentioning a simple step to remedy this problem once. It involved commenting out some font type somewhere but I can't quite recall in which file. Can anyone help me out here? [SLE] UMAX SCSI-2 Scanners?

Hello Linux folks! I want to use color flat bed SCSI scanner with my Linux box. When I looked into Linux hardware database I found that UMAX SCSI scanners are pretty much supported in Linux (SANE umax). Since there are not all UMAX SCSI scanners listed in this database and most of them are discontinued items I got a question: Can I use with Linux a new Umax Astra 2200 SCSI-2/USB flatbed scanner? Will it work with my Adaptec AIC-3860 and AIC-7890 onboard SCSI controllers? May be somebody can share its own experience about using scanner with Linux? What kind of scanner (brand name and model) would you advise me to buy for Linux box? I mean to scan reliably without head aches. All suggestions are gladly appreciated. What should the mode of /dev/null be? [SLE] pixmap extraction

[SLE] Changing color of prompt

Does anyone know how to set up .bashrc so that colors can be added to the prompt line? I want to color root's prompt to remind me where I am. [SLE] Printing via plp versus lprold

I've found one reason to use the newer print package plp in place of the Berkeley relic lprold: plp supports the -Z option on lpr (for extra options) while lpr doesn't. Are there any reasons not to switch from lprold to plp? [SLE] SuSE 6.3 sound problem

Greetings to the list, I am having a problem with establishing sound in 6.3. Listed below is my configuration: RAM: 96MB CPU: K6-2/350 Soundcard: SB Vibra16 (ISA) Video: ATI Rage Pro w/8MB (AGP) HD: 4GB partition on Maxtor IDE drive Swap partition: 133MB I tried the procedures outlined on page 258 of the manual that ships with the boxed set for activating P'n'P cards with pnpdump. It correctly identified the card and put the appropriate lines in isapnp.conf but still no sound. In retrospect, I may not have activated it: isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf I also installed OSS (page 261) without any problems but no usable sound even after typing soundon. It will play a sound when I go into the KDE system sound settings, click on a system event .wav file and then the TEST button. I still do not get sound when I click on the Enable System Sounds checkbox, APPLY, etc. I never had these kinds of problems with either Caldera or Redhat. What am I missing? Also, since Linux is only recognizing 64MB, which file do I enter the line " mem=96MB " so that the system will use all of the RAM at boot time? Why is STL included in SuSE incomplete? I can't compile c++ programs that use STL because it seems to be incomplete. (for example new.h is missing) Have i missed the installation of some package? Boot the SuSE rescue system and use fdisk to get the partition table listing (remember to make a hard copy). 2.) Make a backup copy of the boot record and partition table to a floppy. IIRC the incantation I used was # dd if=/dev/hda of=/floppy/mbr.img bs=512 (or bs=32768 for the whole cylinder, not certain it was a while ago, SuSE 6.0) 3.) White knuckle time! Zero the mbr # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 4.) Recreate partition table from hard copy 5.)
