there is a steady stream of questions about getting truetype fonts running in X, and in particular getting Star Office to use them. Now, Joe, your gonna have check out your Mother Board Manuals & see if it will do UDMA 33 or 66 & then load up the bus master drivers from your Motherboard manufacturer (who also will do some of the AGP stuff....). My FIC board needed such a process & then I had to go into Crash98 settings to ee if it would run stable & then I loaded up hdparm in Linux OS & it all goes a tad faster.... :-) I have a high opinion of Asus, so I reckon the material on their site will be clear & ok to work with. I found SOYO a major PIA.... When you have jumped thru various hoops, the hdparm thingy will work as I guess you have already guessed. It is worth the effort & now I can dual boot again, with bigger HDD'z & UDMA 33. Dee, are "...Most of us can't read it. Due to unix mail clients not having mime." Hmmm, I thought "we" were on Linux & Netscape or Nutscrape-on a bad day, on dodgy hardware....? But I must fess, I am in a Crash98 session, cause my flatmate wanted to check out something & it would only fly in that OS; dumb ass standard that it is-for now.... Alpha, "While i have you here, do you have any additions for the list of distros that oughta be discussed in a radio show?" Hmmm, SuSE, Red Hat & Coral & Caldera! Arkeia will put more than one archive on a tape quite happily - just tell it to complete existing tapes. [SLE] Yast causing problems?

Hi guys I am new to Suse 6.3 although I have been playing with redhat 6 for the last 6 months or so. I was just wondering if there is a bug with yast. When I am online using either kppp or wvdial and setup using auto dns and I install an rpm using yast I loose the ability to resolve dns's. I can still ping a number ie 203.2.75.2 (optus in australia) but i cant ping www.optusnet.com.au The only way i can get things back to normal is hangup and redial in. Any ideas? [SLE] Dhclient and dynamic Hostname

Hello, I have installed Dhclient with Suse 6.3. I succeeds to retrieve a dynamic IP-address, domain-name and domain-name-servers. But it doesn't retrieve any of host-name nis-domain nis-servers Is Dhclient supposed to yield this info? Does Dhclient expect the host-name directly from the Dhcpd? Can't it retrieve the host-name from Dns or Nis once it knows it's IP-address? SuSE were nice enough to replace the DVD with the CDs when things didn't work out. For the record it didn't work with my Creative Encore 2X DVD Drive. And I remember someone ahving problems with a DVD-RAM drive. I think a panasonic drive, LF-D101 springs to mind. Otherwise... Normal DVD operation works well in 6.3. Drivers for my Dxr2 card work perfectly! [SLE] The French Connection

I am destined to spend some time working in the south of France and am bringing the elements to assemble a desktop machine to run a S.U.S.E. distribution. I have to post photographic documents, spreadsheets and text to the web so others can examine my work product. Since the web was concocted in French-speaking Switzerland I guess this line of questioning could be termed lame, however: I know that they use different plugs in France, just to annoy us. I am vague on the costs and modes of connection to ISPs in France. I am guessing that once connected, the protocols of transmission are standard, but I don't know if there is any difference in obtaining a connection. [SLE] general fb-question+ cushion effect

hi all, i have 2 computers, firewall and workstation, they are 5 meters apart, but their screens are next to each other on my desk. works fine, apart from the ugly pincushion effect on my screen, even at low resolution o... can i somehow correct the cushion-effect via software, the card is a millenium mga 2064W (rev 1) 2meg? or, even better... is it possible to use the framebufferdevice to make two vgacards coexist in peace? I would perhaps want to have both graphics cards in my workstation, a p2 at 266, which has has an onboard 215GB Mach64 GB (rev 5c) 4meg [rage pro, i think] , the machine is a compaq presario 4840. i looked at the docu in linux/Doc.../fb/ and read something like being able to choose, which vgacard should be reserved by the fb driver at boot time with some switch being dev:X where x is supposed to be the number of the vgadevice in lspci output. this should tell the fbdriver which one to talk to, and that it should leave the other one alone. Have i understood this correctly? the project i have, is to have two independant graphical surfaces on 2 screen right next to each other, now does the framebuffer-module enable the use of two x-servers, one being the normal xf86_mach64 and the other being xf86_fb running ontop of the matroxfb or the vesafb module? i could then use the x2x program to transfer mouse and keyboard input from screen to screen. [SLE] Suse 6.1 & system time

I am having a problem with my system time. On boot-up it is fine. After about 12 hrs it bears no relationship to actual time. if left long enough > 24hrs say, it *may* come back into line with the system clock and then go back out of synch during the night. A reboot sorts it back to actual time, but next morning say it will be a mile out (not minutes but hours). Otherwise the system is working fine but it is not too handy for timestamps on files / emails etc. Windows on the same m/c stays on the correct time so I don't think it is the m/c. I am using SuSe 6.1 on a Pentium 2 (266 Mhz). Is this a known problem with 6.1 or have I missed something in my install? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can hotswap scsi id1, id2, id3, id4, id5 but NOT scsi id0.
