I have tried it on an epson 1160 which is unsuported by suse/linux , and the esp drives make changing paper size real easy. [SLE] Accessing Windows for all Users

Hi All, I would like to have read and write access my Windows partition as a user. At this time users only have read permissions. The Windows partition is shown as belonging to the root group and owned by root. I want the users Ralph and Linda to be able to read and write their data on the /windos. When I try and change permissions with KFM the changes do not stick. When I try and use chmod and chgrp from root there are error messages, trying to use chmod users+rwx /windos gets a report as invalid mode. Since I really don't know what I am doing in Linux, I am sure there is a combination of operator and syntax errors at work here. The changes I would like are to have the users be able to read and write to /windos immediately upon logging in, without having to manually configure or load anything. Full access to /windos would be nice, full access to about 10 data directories under /windos would be OK, having to manually change permissions on hundreds of files would not work. The system is Suse 7.0 and the /windos is vfat. This is a fairly recent and fresh install of Suse 7 as I wanted to try the Reiser FS. I thought Suse had read and write access to the windows partition in 6.2 and 6.3 but maybe I was content with read only access at that time or maybe I was luckier on the install. Any help would be appreciated. I logged in as root and from the command line used YaST to install the ossdos_up-3.9.3n package from the pay series. Nothing in the /etc/permissions file refers to oss. Notice that I also tried to address the oss-install program with the COMPLETE path and still it failed. Now when I used my older tar of 39d the ./oss-install program works. The only thing blocking me is that 39d doesn't recognize my license. The strange thing is that I used the 39d on my previous 7.0 install, from scratch, using YaST, and it worked! This current install from scratch was with YaST2. Ok, SuSE, what's up with this? [SLE] Using Apache as a Junkbuster / ad filter

I was using Apache as a proxy to filter out ads and replace them with the Apache logo on SuSE 6.4 (Apache 1.3.6, IIRC). On SuSE 7.0 mod_rewrite only seems to see URLs on the localhost. Accessing Internet content seems to bypass mod_rewrite (RewriteLogLevel 9 and rewrite rules aren't applied to non-local URLs). Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? [SLE] port redirector?

I seem to have misplaced it, but didn't someone recently mention a package/app that could be used to redirect ports internally? I have a webserver internally that I want to make available both externally and internally at the same address. Any suggestions/places to start looking? [SLE] Wvdial.dod failure

Hello, Out of the blue, I am getting this message : pppd[759] : no device specified and stdin is not a tty. Dial-on-demand no longer works. I can make a connection with wvdial and kinternet, but for some strange reason it won't happen automatically. I have not changed any config files, and rebooting does nothing for the problem. Wvdial --chat does not connect. Can't access my modem. I have NO idea what might have caused dial-on-demand to fail. It was working flawlessy until sometime last night. Anyone shed some light? [SLE] Kernel Panic with SMP kernel in 6.4

I am attempting to install SuSE 6.4 on a dual PPro 200 system. I thought I had this running (on this same system) before but now, after I choose the SMP kernel and it reboots, I am getting a kernel panic. Both processors are stepping 7. Following is the boot log, please excuse any spelling errors as I am having to type this in from another machine. <snip> Cpu 0: intel Pentium pro stepping 07 Cpu has booted Before bogomips Total of 2 processors activated (797.08 bogomips) Before bogocount - setting activated = 1 Boot done Enabling symmetric IO mode... done Enabling IO-APIC IRQs ... changing IO-APIC physical APIC ID to 16 kernel panic: could not set ID in swapper task - not syncing </snip> Anyone tell me what this might mean?
