Hi, all. I have just installed two Suse Linux 6.2 boxes and mounted one of them as NFS client in the second one. The server's directory is mounted as "rw" in the client, and everything seems to work well, but when I run a program in the client that tries to lock a serverŽs file, I got an error (locked file). In previous releases (6.1) when I made "rpcinfo -p", there were some lines "nlockmgr", which now donŽt exist. Are they necessary?. How can I make them run? Any help will be wellcome. [SLE] Need help:wvdial and /dev/ttyS0...

[SLE] Sound installation.

Hello all, Just to make sure that i'm going to do everything right .( Never thought that i'll need sound for Linux :))) SInce many people here already used alsa i think you'll help me not repeat possible mistakes. I have Yamaha DS-XG sound card and going use ALSA drivers for it. SuSE 6.2. from the box. Questions: 1) Should i recompile kernel to amke sound support as module or it's default and i can just use load ???? 2) Which driver is recommended from SuSE ditribution CD or lates one from alsa site ? 3) Where i can find alsaconf utility ? I have tried to use that one alsa web site .. after all configuration, making, etc. i've try to depmod and get a lot of message about snd* drivers dependences errors. If i installed from SuSE CD there it put all modules ? because i didn't find them . [SLE] Ethernet - how to figure out IRQ and Interrupts for my card... old 486 Gateway

After trying for about 2 weeks to get my Ethernet card working on my main machine I have finally succeeded in getting the module to load. Yippee! Now I need to connect it to something - which is my old Gateway 486 with a 3-Com (something) 10T ethernet card. Can anyone suggest a way to determine the appropriate Interrupts and IRQs to send to the various modules as options? I am using the Boot diskette that came with my boxed CD set because the 486 does not have a CD-ROM, so I am going to try a network install if I can get this card stuff figured out. When I try "autoload of modules" in the install program, it returns that no modules have been loaded. When I list the interrupts and IRQs all of them have these cryptic names none of which look like ETH0. The card is plugged in and powered up (the little light on the back of my machine is working). Is this a Bios thing? Thanks! That nasty black'n'white // grey pixmap..... where on the earth is? Is part of the Xserver itself? Is part of Xwindow's architecture. If necessary I'll hack the code, but by the way I hate that thing, and I think it makes Xwindow seem poor'n'ugly, nobody has thought on changing it into any kind of gray//blue, to make it seem a bit better??? [SLE] X11R6 Root Image

Anybody knows if there's any configuration line in any config file of X11R6 that allows me (without executing any binary) changing the nasty black'n'gray background of an " exec /usr/X11R6/XF86_MYSERVER" to a BlackOnly or a bitmap background? Hi LenZ and Ole, tonight I examined top while disk throttling: process "nobody" was doing a FIND , with priority 13 (16). More, from the exam of /var/log/messages, it seems that my machine effectively tries to launch a cron op (oops Ole!!, sorry) (never set by me) and can't execute it as the resource searched is locked by a certain PID (I seem 163). After launching a generic /usr/sbin/cron, the disk stopped. More, after "playing" a while with KDE supplied with the first release of 6.1, my machine (hardware is ok) stopped totally. I couldn't log from a different tty and kill the "killer" process. No particular problem as I'm only amusing with my Linux, and not working, but... [SLE] YaST and WvDial, kppp, etc.

I must say that when I first started with Linux one of the biggest complaints I had and that many other newbies had was how much trouble it was to configure ppp. I'm grateful for the learning experience but I'm even happier now that I can use wvdial or kppp, pop in a little information, and then I'm up and going. Piece of cake! (I still haven't gotten ppp going with Gnome, though). Kudos to YaST/WvDial, and kppp!
