I think kmail doesn't require you to have anything other than the relevant bits of Qt....? Apparently the newer versions are quite good - I myself prefer pine, as there is *nothing* faster to load up! Have you tried... a) to change the connection speed in Kppp to 115something? I had the same problem, and it connected at 9600 when set up at 56000, and it connects at 33600 with 115000... don't know why... b)maybe you need to specify your DNS address in the kppp account setup? Or it is wrong? [SuSE Linux] Problem in the Enlightenment of my Linux

Hi! recently, I downloaded Enlightenment for Linux. I got the package EVERYTHING.tar.gz, which is supposed to include all the needed files, and comes with an install script, which I attach to this message. I decompressed the package to a directory, and launched the script with sh install-all it gives to me the following error messages: : command not found : command not found 'nstall-all: line 5: syntax error near unexpected token '{ 'nstall-all: line 5: ' build() { and quit. Since I'm no expert at this, can someone tell me where I fault? Is there any way to fix it or I need to install all the files manually? It would be quite boring. [SuSE Linux] Connecting Via PPP

Hello, I recently bought SuSE 6.0. I decided to upgrade to kernel 2.2.4. Anyway to cut to the point..... The kernel upgrade went fine, and everything works great except...... My modem is on COM 3 and IRQ 10, UART 16550 (all is set correctly via setserial at boot time). I can use the modem and it works fine. However when I try to connect to my ISP via PPP I get a LCP: Config-Request timeout. I did not have this problem before the upgrade. I went ahead and upgraded to the new pppd, but it did not fix the problem :-( And PPP support is built into the kernel, and it inits ok at boot time. Any help or suggestions would be great. I am wondering if maybe the new kernel changes some of the /dev/ settings and it is making the modem not connect. But like I said, I can use minicom to dialout. Apologies for duplicate postings, but I'd like to make sure I sound a diverse population. Today' London "Sunday Times" feature "Innovation" (pp 10-11 of "News Review", <A HREF="http://www.sunday-times.co.uk"><A HREF="http://www.sunday-times.co.uk</A">http://www.sunday-times.co.uk</A</A>> ) has an article by David Hewson (of "Linux, the Program from Hell" fame) entitled "Linux wins backing of computing giants". His attitude to Linux is much more moderate than it was: the article is basically balanced and fair, including some sound negative comment. However, he states: "Behind the hype there is precious little sign of Linux becoming a serious, versatile desktop OS. If all you need is a browser to get through the day, it's fine. But if I boot the PC I am using right now into any kind of Unix the list of stuff I lose -- music composition, accounting and personal finance to name but a few -- is endless because the applications just aren't there. On top of that, Linux is difficult to set up, fails to understand the difference between a desktop PC and a notebook, and lacks any kind of plug and play facility." I'm sure the last sentence is simply wrong in point of fact. If, in the previous sentence, he'd given a longer "list of stuff I lose" one might be in a better position to respond constructively. However, can I ask people what they would use for "music composition, accounting and personal finance"? I'm aware of good programs for creating musical scores which can also generate MIDI output, but I'd hardly call them top-flight composition tools; and it does seem that the accounting/finance area is thinly served. He didn't mention OCR (optical character rcognition) either. Where is the OCR program for Linux that works? Now that vmware is out ( <A HREF="http://www.vmware.com"><A HREF="http://www.vmware.com</A">http://www.vmware.com</A</A>> ) people who want to can run Windows applications on top of Linux without, it seems, losing much or indeed anything, so this could be the basis of another line of reply to Hewson's article: he can start up Linux and the "list of stuff I lose" would be empty because it would all still be there! My response would be that basically he's right. There are many, many application areas that are well represented in the M$ world which we just don't have. Yet. But that is changing rapidly. The KDE and GNOME projects in particular are addressing many of those shortcomings, and they are not the only ones. There are a bunch of promising projects in beta right now that will be professional grade packages when they're finished. [SuSE Linux] Samba questions (moving to Suse from Mandrake)

I finally recieved my 6.0 package and installed it. I found that samba was not installed by the default install and ran Yast to install. I edited my "/etc/smb.conf" and went to stop and restart smb and nmb. Surprise, no smb in "/usr/sbin" (where mandrake had them). "locate smb" shows a lot of files. but no smb. Is it renamed in this distro, or do I need to load something else? [SuSE Linux] Resetting dhcp

Hello: I have a problem where my ethernet card (i.e. eth0) suddenly keeps dropping or resetting itself after a few hours? I'm sort of new to this but I figured this snippet of log info would be helpful for the experience in this forum. Could someone shed some light on what is happening and what I can do to correct it? Every few hours I notice that my IFCONFIG readout hasn't anything for eth0 AND that my route info hasn't an entry for my dynamic IP from my ISP. Just for your info, if I turn off my machine for a day or less, my IP is always the same (i.e. 216.160.73.69). Could there be something I can change to prevent this or delay the reset?
